Hello to you all. I've been a member of the ifish community for a couple of years now, but until now I've lived in Soldotna, AK. Just took a job here in K-Falls, sold house in AK, buying one here, and I'm exploring the area. Living in a motel for now, but I brought most of my fly rods and other stuff so's I can fish. Man, the midges!!!!! Not a huge problem, but I'm thinking, look at all this trout food! Alaska didn't have this much insect activity, even mosquitos.
Anyway can anyone clue me into local clubs or fly tying groups in the area? I have some property in Chiloquin, near the Williamson, about a mile north of town. Any good fishing that far upstream now?
Have to admit I'm having a hard time adjusting to warm afternoon temps- we've had a very cool summer in Ak before I left.

Do you have river frontage on the Williamson? If you do the fishing sucks on that river - just kidding. Blue Ribbon Trout stream no doubt. I don't know the ins and outs of it but that is some great fishing on that river, but I think that banks are all locked up and I'm not sure if it is floatable.

So you move to Oregon and pick one of the toughest puzzels to solve, the Williamson...This is a fantastic river. I lived over in the Rouge Valley for several years in the late 80's and early 90's. Having friends in Chiliquin, I have made several trips over with minimal success. Poly Rossboro lived in a trailer about where the casino now sits.(famous fuzzy nympth guy) before he died several years ago. When I met him, he suggested we focus our efforts on the mouth of the sprauge and the boat ramp area on the south end of Chiliquin...That would be my advice....It is a tricky River to learn, and worth your while to pay a guide.
You're not far from Rouge Steelhead, and I think they are easier to catch. Also, we used to fish that murkey water in the Klamath river out of Keno where it dumps into Boyle Res. We did pretty well on green or black leach patterns...good luck...happy exploring.

Thanks EW, the guide is what I will do, at least look into it. This month is good timing for me, 'cause after I start moving into house the chores will never end, and POOF! Season gone!
How about lakes?

If you have a trolling motor you can go to the back side/west side of Klamath lake to a place called Rocky Point. The lake is 4 to 6' deep with Channels of watter in between the grass that grows up. Guys troll rapalla's and catch BIG predatory bows and I know that would work with the right streamer like a big zonker. Late Sept and October would be best for that...I also like Howard Prarie...we have caught kokes on gerdle bugs casting out and stripping in. You can alos troll for nice rainbows with smaller fly's there too...Some years the lake gets real low in the fall...I haven't been down there for a few years. And, there are lot's of hike in lakes that are fun out or the Lake of the woods are.

Rumor has it that Klamanite knows a thing or two about that neck of the woods, as well as previously mentioned (and not) waters:whistle:. A 6-pack of Diet Mt. Dew and Donut Gems might work miracles:twocents:.
