I bought a 15hp Merc 2 Stroke Kicker for my boat. It's the Electric Start / Long Shaft model. When I bought it I ran it at the old owners house for 10 min or so. Starter right up no problems... It was cold when I started it at the old owners house.

Last night I mounted the thing on my boat and filled a garbage can with water to test start it. I can't get the thing to start for the life of me. I followed the instructions on the cowling, and I can't get the thing to even start to catch (it just cranks).

The On/Off switch is in the ON position (with the lanyard in place).

The Motor is in the Netrual/Start position.

The Motor is locked in lower position.

I have Spark, and judging by the sheen of oil on the water in the garbage can I have fule.

I am guessing that I am just missing a switch or somthing? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

Turn the knob on the front all the way to the right then pull it in and out twice and leave it out. It should start within two pulls. If its flooded pull the arm forward that actuates the linkage and crank it till it starts and let go of the linkage as it clears out

Is it in neutral? On one of my old motors I had to play with it a bit to find neutral, try moving it slightly back and forth while trying to start to see.

Thanks for the help, I got it all figured out. I think it was just bad gas in the existing line from the main tank. Pushed some gas through and gave the carb a puff of starting fluid and everything is good now! Starts right up and runs like a champ!

Thanks,

Chris

Doc has it right even on elec start mercs you have to pull the choke a few times and prime the carb for cold starts..:twocents:
