Yesterday running from Mult. Falls back up to the Fishery while on full plain I lost my forward gear. I still have reverse and nutral but when I attempt to put in forward there is nothing, no sounds, no grinding, nothing. This is on a 76 23ft apollo with a 302 ford with an OMC outdrive. The previous owner must have had issues with the origanal shifting michanism because they changed the F N R to a toggle switch on the dash. This is all electronic shift and I'm kind of in the fog and any help to get me back on the water would be muchly appriciated. Tell you what going from Mult. Falls to the Fishery in reverse was not the highlight of my day.:passout:

Thanks much.

1st thing to do is to go to the lower unit where the wires come off the lower unit ...
Find out what wire is the forward wire splice into it and get a jumper wire and touch it to the + side of the battery about 25 times ...
If it goes into foward every time then the problem is the switch on your dash or your wiring, if it does not go in one of the times the problem is in the lower unit...
On the foward gear is a spring that is pulled by a electromagnet when power is put too it, could be a bad wire , to a spring , to a gear Or the magnetic shift coil ....
Depending on the wear on the lower unit its sometimes easier to replace it with a rebuild than just put in some parts to get it going ...
Hope this helps ...

Doesn't look good! I've got power from the switch down to the wire going into the outdrive. Looks like I may be looking at a rebuilt outdrive in the near future.

Break
Out

Sorry Dude ... You might find something when you pull it off such as a corroded connection or the like ...
