Looking for opinions/advice on bow mount trolling motor for my sled. Minnkota or Motorguide? Is 50# thrust enough for 16' boat, not real heavy? Main use would be holding/manuevering in river current. Cable steer or electric? Battery needs/consumption? Any and all input is welcomed, thanks in advance.

Are you looking at just holding still in current or going forward against it?

I have the 80 lb, 24 volt Minn Kota Riptide. I love it. It has the co pilot wireless remote control which is cool because you can run it anywhere in the boat. It also has the Auto Pilot feature which works good to keep you going straight in wind in current. I keep the remote around my neck so I can run my downriggers or rods and keep control of the boat at the same time. I also had the Minn Kota onboard charger installed which is nice to keep your batterys charged inbetween trips. I mainly use it for trolling for kokanee but also for drifting bait and trowing lures. Just remember if you go with a cable motor you stuck in the bow working the pedal. I think out of all my friends only one owns a Motor guide and he's a green carp fisherman. oops I mean bass fisherman.
