Kinda new to fly fishing for salmon. What size leaders have you guys been using for swinging or nymphing flies. Any formulas would be greatly appreciated so I can tie some up before heading to POW this fall. Thanks!

When are you going to POW?
One fellow I know uses 20lb on POW. Helps for the occasional foul hooked chum to get them in quickly and not tie up the hole from other folks, and the silvers don't seem to mind at all.

I would build a leader start out with 30# about 2.5 feet, then got to 2.5 feet of 20# I would then do a section of of 15# and go with a tippet of 12#. I would be suprised if you need anything over 12# unles the silvers are huge or you are combat fishing. Then you would need to up the leader strength. Good luck

Go to The Greased Linefly shop in Vancouver. Some years ago, Bill McMillan developed a leader tying system that help turn over the leader depending on fly, tippet and leader length, and fly line used. I believe maxima also had something to do with that. If he doesn't have it, he'll know about it.
