Read all the input on battery preferences. Still on the fence, and need 2 new batteries. Quick poll for final advice:
Optima Blue tops or Trojan SCS 225? May the best battery win.
Thanks.

Single battery Lou ... Well thats a tough one ... Exide has been making batteries for over 200 years and thats all they do ...
But if money was not an object I would go with Advanced Power Products Lifeline Marine A G M as it has the lowest internal resistance of any of them ...

trojans are great, and so are optimas. I have optimas and the only reason is to loose about 10 lbs each battery over trojans

Trojans are top notch batteries, got one in my boat now, when I need a replacement it will be a Trojan again. But Optima batteries are suppose to be great also so perhaps you cannot go wrong with either choice. It mostlikely comes down to how much you want to spend.

sounds like either way, your safe.
Joe's has the trojan's on sale at $160, the Optimas are $135 with a $25 rebate at Costco.
time for some more shopping. I'm a tightwad!

With a two batery system do you run starting bateries or one starting and a deep cycle?

I run the Optimas on my boat. No regrets. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I bought the Trojan. I went in to Joe's this spring to buy an optima. The fella working the counter said he liked the trojan battery better. He said he had a pallet full of optima's that had gone bad. My son uses an optima on his boat to run his minn kota and has had no problems. I think his battery is 2 years old. Anyway the trojan has been good to me so far.

Buy one of each keep a record of when they were used, then you can give us the real scoop on what to get next time.

If you have 2 motors and 2 selector switches you should run 2 starting batteries Deep cycle of course ...
If you have 1 motor on a 2 battery system with 1 selector switch most setups use a standard deep cycle for the house battery and a starting type for the motor ...

:yeahthat: I run Optima's too. Never had a failure in 6 years..... And I've heard great testimonials about Trojans too. I don't think you can go wrong either way......

I run a blue top optima with no problems (2 years old). The guy at battery exchange said optimas don't like to sit around with no activity. Knowing that, I give it a charge every few weeks when not in use.
I got 7 years out of my last set in my pickup. They get a lot of abuse too! :D
