Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of adjusting the engagement coupler on a NR aluminum trailer? Under the tongue, there is a spring and a shaft with a nut that is adusted clockwise/counter clockwise to adjust for surge brake engagement. Ive got 2K miles on my trailer and it doesnt quite stop as hard as it should.

How much is too much on turning that nut and wich way?:anyone:

Discs or drums?

If they're drums they probably need to be adjusted. I'd bet the fluid in the lines is nasty also. They might need to be bleed also.

Before I went to discs,I flushed the 2 year old brake fluid and re-bled the brakes and it stopped better than new. The brake fluid was terrible.

they are disc brakes- fluild reservoir is in the tongue. there is no adjustment of the discs themselves, only on the coupler as to haw hard the engage when my truck surges forward.

boat/trailer was new in april.

How about calling the NR dealer. Or a trailer shop? A kind mechanic should be able to give you some tips. I don't have experience with surge breaks, only electric.

try bleeding them before you adjust anything. if there is air in the lines, they won't stop well.:twocents:
