I was wanting to install a trolling plate on my 280 outdrive to try and slow my troll down.but didn't know if it was possible, has any one done it?with the exausht going through i figured just using longer bolts to bolt it on.Am i thinking correctly?

I did that once, with unsatisfactory results. The troll plate I used had a release where you pulled a string. I was always forgetting to pull the string when I wanted to quit trolling and run. Bent the plate. I went back to towing a couple of 5 gal. buckets off the stern cleats. Of course, sometimes I would forget to pull in the buckets, but if I mangles a bucket, at least it wasn't a piece of expensive hardware. If you are going to use buckets, put on a rope handle, and tie it on to your stern line with a bowline.

As I recall the trolling plate didn't slow it down as much as I wanted, but your results may vary. And, yes, I just bolted it on to the cavitation plate through which the exhaust runs on the 280.
