OK, this topic has been beaten to death so i want to be specific. We all know that the T8 Yamaha and maybe to a slightly lesser extent, Honda, have acheived cult status as trolling rigs. People who own them worship them-mostly.
Does anone have any experience with the Mercury "pro- Kicker" 9.9 thats out?
What are your thoughts compared to others. Where do they all stack price wise?
Thanks in advance...:excited:

I have a merc big foot pro with electric start and tilt, I only have about 20 hrs total time on motor. I have had to take it back to the shop to get it serviced and check the jet? I wuld die at a slow troll ( i mean just barley in gear . but runs smooth and stron at all other speeds.

I've had mine for 6 years and hundreds of hours, never a problem. A bit cold blooded on those cold winter steehlead mornings, but once started, it'll slow troll all day.....

I bought one in 2006. It was the Pro Kicker with the tilt and high thrust prop. I sold it on my old Harbercraft. Never had a problem with it. It ran good, started up easy and trolled down to .4 mph. I would say it is just as good as my Yamaha I have now.

i guess i have heard some folks have a few fits with t8's- i know there are thousands of them out there so i guess the law of averages says that there will always be some issues but i just wanted to give the devil credit and ask about other options.
I had a small merc 20hp 2 stroke i bought new in 94 and that motor was bomb proof....tough as nails and most of all , reliable.
i wasnt sure if that has transfered over to their new 4 stroke trollers....

One of my fishin' buddies has the T-8 on his 19' Duckworth. He's never had a problem with it over the last 4 years. His 150 two-stroke Yami is another story.
I've got an '03 (bought new in 8/02), 9.9 4 stroke Merc and it's been flawless for the last 6 years...... Cold blooded in cold weather (2-3 pulls) but once started, it's good to go.
Any New kicker by Yami, Merc, Honda is going to be very good. They're all good.......
I'll stick with the Mercs......

Ive have a 2001 9.9 Merc 4 stroke. Its 94 lbs. It has had a choke butterfly valve sticking problem and a fuel bowl needle valve sticking open problem. Both were easily repaired by me with parts from my local Merc dealer.
I treat it like my lawn mower.... never had an oil or oil filter change in over 400 hours. It is what it is.
