VHF Question....

It seems I am not broadcasting. My mike does cancel the sqeulch and the talk indicator lights up. I did notice that the lighted toggle switch next to the radio toggle glows when my mike is pushed ...what's up with that??

Not sure what the toggle switch is all about - first how do you know it isn't transmitting? can you hear others but they can't hear you?

Its either Antenna or Radio. If you can hear others but they cannot hear you unless you are really REALLY close than its antenna.

Better be for getting a SWR meter on that radio and check the swr on the Antenna before you blow the finals

Let me take a wild guess - you have a Shakespeare 5206 vhf antenna? If not - you do have an antenna problem most likely. First order of business is to get the antenna checked - I'd gladly check that with my antenna analyzer, but I have no plans to be in Salem any time soon. I live in Tigard.

If you do have a 5206, don't bother checking it - replace it. Digital Antenna's 529 comes very highly recommended and many of my salty brothers have switched to these antennas and have been extremely happy with them. PM Lurking Out Loud, he's got the best price on that antenna around.

I'll also agree with his statement on "Digital" antenna. I now run 2 on my boat for each of my radios. They are well worth the money.
