NR is running a special on these right now with a 115 Yamaha jet. 6 degree and 12 degree. Is this enough motor ? Usually fishing by myself or with one other...

I would say if you're gonna get a boat, get what you want. Don't compromise just to save a few bucks because an extra thousand or 2 might not be that much in terms of a monthly payment.
And no, personally I don't think a 115 (4 stroke probably) would be enough for a heavier boat like a north river. Biggest complaint I've heard from sled owners is that their boat is underpowered. :twocents:

The 115 is allright if your running a prop, but if you're going to a pump, go with the 150. Trust me, I know. You will be pleased at first, until you have (4) people in there and then you'll be wishing you had the 150.
They will tell you it's more than enough, but it's not!!! They are awesome boats.

Ditto
I have the 115 w/prop and it is great, but you lose 25% or more with the Jet. Then you need the xtra juice for the current etc..
150 would be a better match imo.
NR is an excellent boat. :excited:

I have a 19' with the 150 and I'm sure I would not like the 115:twocents:

Tell North River to sell there "Special" to someone else!! See if you can get the Ford Dealer down the road to sell you a Focus to pull it with! Plenty of Power....:passout:
Why do you think it is a special?
In fact tell NR to sell all their stuff to someone else, and go buy a used boat! Save $15,000 and fish the next 5 years for free.

If you are set on buying new
1-Know you will take a hit on it if you ever sell it.
2-Get what you want, and forget about a few boat bucks.
I would guess most boat makers are pretty willing to deal right now. Especially if it means a lost sale.
I have NEVER heard of anyone being unhappy that they have too much power on a jet. I have heard several folks whimper about being underpowered.
On a hull like a NR, which aint real light, and does not make as much lift as others(Koffler, Willie), you will want all the juice you can get.
If you are looking at 4 stroke power, get more hp.

The 115 in a pump is not enough, I have one! If you want a pump go big or go home. I am going to get a used lower unit for mine so I can switch it when I want because with 4 people on the columbia it is just not enough.:twocents:

Great idea !
I run a 115 *prop* on the Big C. Love it !
Top speed is not going to be over 40, but is a great fuel effecient choice.

I have a 18 Alumaweld with a 175 Mariner, I never wished I had more power not even if there is 4 guys in the boat with 40 gallons of fuel in a ripping rapid. I also have a prop lower unit to be in the 50+ mph club.
Sometime fishing is not good and all you want to do is knock the socks off of a underpowered sled...just my 2 cents

I have the 17'10 Scout that was discontinued a few years back. I'm running the 115/80 pump because that was the max rating for the hull. It works great with 2 or 3 people in it. But add some extra weight, and it can struggle sometimes getting on plane. I could not imagine putting the same motor on a 19' Scout.

I ran that exact combination ( manufacturer, length, style, and motor) on our work boat and it was WAY under powered. Even when it was brand new it barely planed 3 of us and work gear. Anything over 18 should have a 200 if it's a jet.

This topic comes up in one form or another every few weeks.
When it was time for me to by my first lawnmower, i could have done the $119 True value special with the 3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton. I went instead to St Johns Honda and bought the 6hp commercial Landscapers model. That was a little over 17 years ago:D.
When i new i wanted to get a full size SUV back when gas was$$2.09 /gallon, everyone said "the 1500 half ton with the vortec 350 is plenty"
I bought the K2500 with the 454 7.4L Vortec- never looked back. Came in handy when i pulled my North River Trapper over Siskyou summit last friday. When your combined gross weight is 11,200# the gas milage is irrelevant.
If you are going to drop the hammer on a new boat (good choice by the way) get exactly what you want.
I have made it a point in my life to buy bigger and buy more than someone tells me i need. I have NEVER regreted it. Ever. If they say 115 go 150.
or even 200. Jets take 30% off the top.
Wait until you get 3 or 4 corn fed fellas in that thing. you will be gald you did.
GO BIG!!!!!!:thisbig:
they can come up with a special for a 150 or 200HP.
do it right once and never look back.:twocents::D
