I know I have mine, but I am curious as to what the rest of you like to throw at the slivers.
I thought it would be fun to list your favorite Coho fly, why it's your favorite, the last fish you caught with it and where.
Mine was on the Sandy, last year on one of my winter steelhead patterns, the lifter. I tied it slightly larger on a size 4 scud.

Lifter is as the top of my list too, along with other pink and red egg patterns. I have no confidence swinging for Coho so I have stuck with the egg patterns in the past... I want to change that this year:D.

I have had good luck swinging ESL's and Moals in tidewater and that includes at the mouths of some of the Columbia tribs. But when it comes to fishing tributaries its hard to beat the Lifter.

My favorite fly for swinging for Coho is the Purple Angel (http://karamanos.net/sports/flies/purpleangel.html) :

Last year my most productive fly was a Chartreuse Spider ( with one twelve fish day):
http://karamanos.us/Fishing/Flies/cspider1.jpg
The Chartreuse Spider I tied on a short shank Octopus type hook (#4 or #2) with an SLF dubbing body and a Chartreuse Guinea hackle. This fly produced Coho both swinging and nymphing.
The Cerise Lifter also produced Coho for me last year. Remember when tying the Lifter to use egg yarn for the tail and tie it "bushy".

I tie a couple of variations of the lifter. The one that has produced the best is with egg yarn as the tail and med/lrg cactus chenelle on the top with some milk white egg veil and a tungston bead. Usually on a size 4, 6 or 8 depending on species. "Bushy" is key.
I like the Chartruse spider though Andy. A twelve fish day? I think that needs to get worked into my arsenal!

Still fairly new to Coho on the fly, this will be my 3rd season. With that said, I have had the most hook ups with a Thunder Egg on top with an unweighted Pink and White fly trailing.
Fished under an indicator I nymph through the runs and wait for the action to start.

mpruet... Any pics of the Thunder Egg?
AndyK or anyone else: Do you fish the lifter under a indicator?

The Lifter, tied with a bead, is normally nymphed (usually under an indicator). If you want to swing the fly, don't tie it with a bead.
By no means an expert, but I have hooked river coho with an indicator rig and a weighted pink/peach egg-yarn-type-fly. I try not to get too fancy with it because I hang up a lot on the bottom. I dead drift it, then let it swing up in the current. When the fish are on, it's amazing how many fish will hit it on the swing.
Man, I can't wait until the coho are in.

Andy, what type of sink are you using when swinging the lifter? Intermediate?

Nothing special. Whatever would be appropriate for a wet fly or soft hackle.

Hey Andy, you don't have more specific instructions on the two patterns you showed here? I would like to tie some up for a trip

Good stuff.
For me it really depends on the water I'm fishing. Low, clear water I like purple and orange comets for swinging and cerise nymphs for pocket water. Higher, colored water I like ESL's, polar shrimp, and popsicles.
For estuary, stillwater stuff I like small patterns in red and purple.

Recipes for the Lifter and Purple Angel:

Purple Angel (http://karamanos.net/sports/flies/purpleangel.html)
The recipe for the Chartreuse Spider is as stated above:
The Chartreuse Spider I tied on a short shank Octopus type hook (#4 or #2) with an SLF dubbing body and a Chartreuse Guinea hackle. This fly produced Coho both swinging and nymphing.
BTW, the Purple Angel is a good steelhead fly.
