Looking for some info on hi lakes and streams in Gifford. Do the whole Goose Lake thing. Really looking for some lesser known streams and small lakes that I can take my 6 & 8 year old boys to do some fishing.

Thanks,

If you dont mind a little hike, try castle lake. If you have a float tube even butter. But, you can only drive to the top of the ridge, its about a 800ft - 1000ft elevation change to the lake or so. But, you can hike down a gated road.

Wow, just re read your post. Wouldn’t want to take a 6 yr old all the way down there. Athought would be Zig Zag, that would be my choice, nice trial a little steep but a fun lake for kids, lots of salamanders as well.

I like Steamboat lake, Hidden lakes, and Forlorn lakes. Thier all up the hill (give or take) from Goose lake. You can drive to them all, full access from shore lines, and great for float tubes and small packable boats. There is more lakes just up the hill from Goose lake than you could shake a stick at.

The main fish will be 10" or smaller brook trout.

The creek mentioned earlier has some fun little trout, but you need to get away from the road a bit.

If you feel like a hike there are several little lakes in Indian Heavens that are good for some small brookies.

If you are looking for something closer, there is Kidney lake (just above north bonneville under the powerlines) and if you hike up the PCT from Bonneville there are several little pothole type lakes just off the trail that have salamanders, turtles, and trout in them. A little brushy though.

I like Steamboat lake

If you goto steamboat ou can also hit Misquito, that is if you have a small boat raft or so on. The family and I had a blast up there last year, trolling with wedding rinns and worms. We cought some nice 11 - 12" brooks but most were 8" to 10".

Ok...is there really fish in Forlorn Lakes?
Friday night, we stayed at the first tent camp spot, right as you turn onto the road. This was my first trip there. We normally spend our time up around Takhalakh Lake, but with FR 23 being washed out for quite some time now, we're exploring around Goose lake more. Anyways....my 4 year old son was wanting to fish in the worse possible way, so we rigged up his little rod with a bobber/worm. We did have one "bobber down", but it just didn't seem like a fish bite....more salamanderish.

The lake we camped at looked really really shallow and well...I was questioning if there really was any fish in there. No surface action or anything after the sun went down, which is kind of odd for higher elevation lakes when the bugs come out.

Forlorn lakes are pretty shallow. All the lakes up there are on the shallow side. There is trout in there (brookies), but I think Forlorn lakes get hit pretty hard because of the camping areas around the lake.

You realy need some sort of boat you can carry and row around and get out into the deeper water, and holes. Pluss its fun to see all the elk tracks criss crossing the lakes, and the occasional skelleton form the ones that didnt make it.

I have caught fish in Forlorn but I had to crouch down behind the bushes. Tried putting a small raft in the lake once and you could see all the fish head for the cover. They are very, very spooky.
