I would have to say a thomas bouyant 1/16 oz. perch colored with a small gold snap swivel. This lure has treated me well. Good luck

For me a #2 panther martin type (I make them myself) particularly with green prism tape on the blade. Store bought, then a silver/chrome kastmaster.

Black body and black tail/ bronze bead above the body and bronze spinner. I don't remember what brand it was that I was using but I believe it was a Blue Fox or Panther Martin..... I don't have alot of experience with trout fishing with lures but this one style caught me 23 of em in one day on the NF Santiam a few weeks back...... all released unharmed!

:agree: Used these (f-4 or f-5) flat lining, with sinking flyline, and with leadcore. Caught bows, brookies, and browns with them. Put 'em in front of a trout and they'll bite. Hard to beat!

Nothin better historically speaking for LARGE trout especially browns. 2 of the 3 biggest browns caught in Oregon were on Rapalas. Every brown I've caught over 5 lbs was on one. My 2 biggest rainbows were on rapalas. One of my biggest bulls was on one. Our #2 mack in the derby 2 years ago (16 1/2 lbs for $1000) was on one. Long live Normark.

For streams -- Roostertail spinners. Favorite color schemes red or orange base body color (all of the variations are good) with a gold blade, or black body with a silver blade. 1/8 ounce is probably my "goto" size most of the time.

For lakes -- Kastmaster, either basic silver or basic gold. Can be cast a mile and fished at any depth shallow or deep, or trolled without twisting the line.

All the rest of my lures (not counting flies, of course -- separate discussion) are basically to ensure I have enough weight on me if I fall in to ensure I sink straight to the bottom.

I noticed alot of people like Roostertails.
Does anyone have the same problem as me with the blades not spinning?
This is why i prefer a Blue fox or Mepps cause the blades spin alot better.
Can anyone tell me a trick to make the blades spin better?

:yeahthat: What Dan said.........and.......

I'll also bend the end of the blade slightly inward sometimes- this can make a stubborn one turn a little better.

I couldn't really name a favorite- there are some "goto" lures- but just because they worked so awesome last time- doesn't mean they'll work today. The favorite is the one that works right now!

I've found that they work pretty well in streams where you have a good current to help the blade along. I don't like using them in ponds and lakes cause I have the same issues as you.

Luhr Jensen Sneak if you can find them. No issue with the blades spinning as soon as the lure hits the water. Waaay better than the newer high pizaaz but vastly inferior Bang Tail replacements. Smallest size in chartreuse, white, or flame.

I have a new favorite color spinner for trout!
I drifted the Santiam the other day.
I decided to custom paint a Blue Fox number 3 spinner.
Black body, black dot under blade, half chartreuse half black blade tip with the rest of the half regular silver. Wow! I caught so many nice cutthroat on
this spinner. I have to re-paint it after that trip.

When I used to trout fish from a boat a slow troll with a brown wooley worm fly no weight slow troll
From the bank a brown wooley worm fly with a water bobber about 3 or 4 ft up the line
Worked extremely well everywhere from canada to diamond lake
Never found a place it didn't catch fish

It's easy. Buy a box full of them and change them when they get a little bent.=)

A Muddler Minnow tied directly to 4 or 6# Maxima and a little dry fly floatant. Strip it out a hundred feet back and she'll ride on the surface. It'll have it's own tiny wake and you can watch the trout attack it. Especially effective at dawn and dusk when they're near the surface. Ferocious strikes and no weights or hardware between you and the fish. http://www.onlineflytyer.com/Images/flies/muddlerminnow.jpg
