How much faith do you have with the solunar calenders, and with the tables for minor & major feeding times? Do you go by moon phases, or a falling barometer? I personally have had just as good of luck on days when they weren't suppose to be biting. Granted, there has been a few outings when the major feeding times were right on, but more often than not it has been wrong in my experience. Seems the last few years I have been going by the weather report and wind prediction for picking the best days and times. What do you go by?

I believe, never lake fish on a full or near full moon if you can help it! They feed all night and lay around in there lawn chairs all day!

During many years of koke fishing I've found that an East wind which ties in with a change in barometric pressure always seems to effect the bite negatively, SB. I can remember one trip to Odell (remember that one Aufish?) when it was hard to get a bite using any method. That evening the wind shifted back around to a more normal Westerly flow and we started catching fish again in bunches the next day. I also agree with Joe, more so with trout fishing than koke fishing, that a full moon is definitely something we can do without. Not being a believer in luck or karma or any of that stuff....these two conditions have never been indicators of a hot fishing trip. It may be just lack of skill but I'd just as soon see neither one of them until returning home. :berry: :)

I have fun with my Casio fishing time watch.
You set the long and lat and time difference from GMT and it shows
little fish in the face 1 to 4 of them when the best bite is.
A lot of fun for $50.

I have one of those fancy Casio watches coming on Wednesday. I hope it isn't to complicated or I will have to have my wife set it. I don't believe in reading instructions until I need them and then it is easier to let her figure it out:D:D

I fish when I can. Don't worry about phase of the moon or shifts in the earth's rotational axis or anything like that.
If the fish aren't biting because of a barometric change, I might not catch any on that trip. If I stay home and don't fish because of a barometric change, I am guaranteed not to catch any fish.

SB -
I don't know why but there seems to be something to those solarlunar tables. Have noticed over the years that wildlife (based on being able to see deer etc out and about) follow those periods. Once I kept detailed records of my fishing and for example during one December I caught 18 steelhead recording the time hooked. At the end of the month I checked the tables and found that 15 came during either a major or minor period.
That said I still go by the rule of going fishing when I can. However if I check the tables I try to make sure that I'm actually fishing during one of those of periods rather than say taking a lunch break.

Over the years I have come to belive the fish seem to bite 2 times a day one period lasting longer than the other. Im sure both these feeding events occur at night as well. This is why one must spend long periods on the water fishing to really catch some fish and why you have to fish alot to increase your chance in hitting the bite-This is how I have explained it to my wife anyways.

Has anyone ever tried the Fishing reports on weather.com? It seems pretty cool, but I don't know what they base it on or whether they are accurate.

I like fishing during the daytime on days that end in 'y' .

The above posts are all good stuff.
I ,for fun and curiosity, look at and read all the things that are supposed to indicate whether fishing will be good. It gives me great satisfaction to go fishing on my favorite lake, have a great day, then walk into FW in Salem and read that the fishing is slow on the lake I fished. Or pick up the lunar tables and find the same. I believe more fish are caught with confidence than anything else. Somehow believing the fish will start biting in the next five minutes has always yieled the best results.

We just need to make up our own fishing tables that indicated great fishing every time we go.

Yep, this is my method. I fish when I can, and I catch them when they bite. Now if I was retired I would probably be fishing the key times, and all the times in between too.
