I've heard a few talking about using a manistee salmon wobbler as a dodger. I'm wondering if other have tried some of the other salmon wobblers?

I'm thinking an Alvin would be a good bet. Alvins are known to wobble well at slower water speeds than alot of the other wobblers. The Manistee wobblers seem to need a little more water speed than an Alvin, or Brads type wobbler. Also the Alvins and Brads are tunable.

Could add an entire new realm of color options, as well as tunabillity. Then well never be able to make up our minds.

Yes, I have used alvins, simons, and brads wobblers.

Still come back to a sling blade, vance's, or luhr jensen style dodger.

I use #4 manistee wobblers as mini-dodgers for kokanee and trout, they work pretty well. They're just like a big crystal-basin "wild thing".

Did you play around with tuning?

I only ask because I have a box full of them and with the now defunct Columbia salmon runs they dont get much use.

Another thought; Rig a Bob Tolman (sp?) thumper spinner as a flasher and drag a wedding ring behind it. It would be smaller, lighter, and more compact than a gang flasher, and they work great at granny speeds.

I have a few Sling blades and small dodgers, but at the trolling speeds I've tried they just lay flat and swing back and forth. They dont dodge side to side like I would like. I must need to try speeds closer to 2 mph.

I am pretty averse to trying most new things if the fishing isn't going well, but I have been slowly converting to dodgers. I bought a ton of sling blades when Freddy's had them at 75% off this winter but don't really like them. The gold star and seps are much more to my liking.

1.6 worked well with the dodger and they can handle 2 mph with no problems. Considering how many fish come in to look at the lure vs. strikes I am trying things that are more erratic. I even tried a wedding ring trailing a dick nite but no joy. Faster speeds are nice if you are prospecting. Only two trips out but I get bigger fish on the fenders, more fun on the dodgers.

I think the Toman thumper idea is pretty darn good. May try it with a plastic clevis, I think with a metal clevis it may be too hard on the line. Remember to glue the clevis if you are using them at fairly high speed.

Ches,

Remember in my FG report I said I learned something I wasn't sharing just yet. The hint is in your reply. That's all I'll say.

Dave,

I didnt intend to rob the blade from the spinner. My intent was to take the trebble off the spinner and tie the entire spinner inline just like a ford fender. It would be a single bladed flasher instead of a gang flasher.

Jzell,

Thanks, I think!! When I was in the marines down in Pendleton we took a few charter trips to Shasta for kokanee.
