Well, I said I would give a report but there is not much to give.
Fished from the bank with lures on Friday night. Nothing and only saw a couple of boats with two to four fish.
Took the boat out Saturday morning and trolled the length of the lake on the East shore with a school of minnows and red and green wedding rings tipped with a worm. Nothing. Before going in for lunch we headed to the North end and picked up a beautiful brook, well, almost. It shook the hook at the boat but we saw it! We really did. Trolled the evening bite at the North end and picked up one 9 inch Rainbow. Clean hook and was still kicking at the end of the stringer so we turned it loose. Not enough for Breakfast. Saw one boat come in with a full stringer, other than that, people had ones and twos. Talked to the group next to us and they said all the stockers they had just dumped were still at the North end and hadn't headed out in the main Lake yet.
I must admit though, we didn't hit it very hard. I had my wife, three year old girl and eight year old boy with me and the patience level for them has its limits. Went on a couple of hicks and had a wonderful time. We will be back.

Thanks for reporting. I've never had a chance to fish Clear Lake because of job obligations but now being retired will put it on the list. You had a great time with your family which is what this game is really all about anyway.

Way back when, I had the pleasure of working at the lodge for a summer. Those trout can be tough to catch at times.

Trolling small spinner and small flat fish slowly worked well for my. Put a few split shot on above the flatfish to get it down and troll it very slow.

Also a small Doc Shelton with a 18 to 24" leader with a plain old peice of night crawler worked will for me.

Another thing that worked real good was trolling a buggy looking black or brown wet fly down around Coldwater cove in the evenings. Caught lots of Brookies doing that.

Ya that place is full of SMART hatchery fish.
Best way to catch fish is with 2lb leader and a half of night crawler or Power Bait or other dough bait. When you get a bite it feels like your dragging bottom. Those fish in there barely bite at all. Its more like they try and suck the bait off your hook instead of bite it.

Thanks for the tips. I have a list of them to try next time. It is only an hour from Sweet Home so I see a day trip in the future. The Gentleman in the cabin next to us had been fishing the lake for 35 years and gave me some pretty good info that goes in line with what others are saying. It is a very temperamental lake, but so beautiful up there that it really doesn't matter how you do fishing. I know that's not really true, but close!
