We were fortunate to spend today at Merwin - a beautiful day to be on the water. The couple of kokanee I was able to net 'in the bottom of the ninth' made for a nice bonus - DINNER! :food:
(For a report on the fishing - click here http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?p=2086246#post2086246)
Here are the lovely ladies and the gear they fell for:

Ahhh, another opportunity to use my new 'fish opener':
(Note: Thank you to 'Gary in Corvallis' whom I met at Odell in early June!:D)

Makes quick and easy skinless filets (I'm not that sharp with a filet knife...yet):

Nothing fancy for the breading - corn meal, some flour, seasonings, and a fresh egg from the coop:

Ready for the hot-oil spa treatment:

About a minute and half on each side:

I prefer mine blackened - especially when the final resting place is a bed of fresh lettuce - from my wife's friend's garden that was graciously left at our door while we were out on the water! Thanks Dawn!:flowered:):

Time to get serious:

About 4.8 minutes later?......

Hope you enjoyed it almost as much as I did!:D

Man those are nice looking fish. I honestly can't bring myself to fish for anything else when I can get kokes like that out of Merwin.
Offering my .02 about the fish skinner- nifty invention but I would be quite happy to save anyone here the $$$ and show you how to do it with a filet knife. Gas is just too expensive to spend it like that if you don't have to.
I'm hitting Merwin this evening late and in the morning. I have only fished solo once this year and I need to get out and hunt some new spots up. When I have people in the boat I am usually too occupied with trying to limit the boat to go exploring.

Thanks, AW. Hope you fared well today.
For those interested, search for 'Townsend Fish Skinner' on eBay and you'll have plenty of options. I paid $21, including shipping for a new in box unit (though surely very old, as these were only made for a short time- a long time ago -I believe.)
I've penciled in Wednesday for another all-out, no-holds barred assault on the Merwin Kokes. Hope to end up with a few for the grill and a couple for the freezer!

I think for $21 or so the gadget factor alone makes it a good buy.
I've not been skinning many kokes this year as we're grilling them. Last season I blackened most of them and I'd skin the fish if they were going in the pan.
Put a couple of filets in a ziploc bag in the fridge with Kikkoman teriyaki sauce and brown sugar. 1 cup teriyaki with 1/4 cup brown sugar. Squeezed the air out of the bag and left them in the fridge 2 days then grilled. Holy smokes! Best kokes ever at my house anyways.

A post like that should be illegal! You are making me hungry for some fresh kokanee.
Those fillets look absolutely delectable.
I thought I saw a fish skinner in Cabela's or Bass Pro catalog just a while back. Maybe a different brand but it looks the same.

Is there somewhere one of those fish skinners is available locally (Salem/Albany) or in Bend? I am headed to Wickiup for a week of fishing and that would be a cool addition to my field kitchen.
