Hey, y'all.

I'm going to try bass fishing for the first time this weekend at Hagg Lake. I've read A LOT of good posts on here and I've stocked up on some bass gear (a couple jigs, a couple senkos, pumpkin lizards, bigger hooks).

I still have a few questions though - any particular setup I should be working with first? wacky worm? texas? carolina? maybe go back to the store and get some rapalas?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You'll have to change it up to fish the type of cover you are fishing. This is one of my favorite parts of bass fishing, is it requires that you get to/require to know more than just one type of thing.

Which part of the lake do you plan on fishing first?

I plan on starting between the dam and ramp A. There is a small inlet there that I'd like to check for cover. I have some friends that are interested in trout too... so I won't get into any really deep weeds.

Get a buzz bait or a spook for early in the morning.. Thats how I have been catching my quality fish lately.

Thanks Bassinator!!! I just picked up a booyah buzzbait. I'll hit a few stores and look for a half-decent topwater too.

Keep it simple Boris,
a bag of 3" watermelon Yum Dingers as well as some in Smoke /red flake
a bag of baby brush hogs in watermelon red/flake & that texas craw color,
a pack of super flukes in baby bass & pearl colors,
some #1, 1/0 & 2/0 Gami EWG hooks,
a bag of tiny split shots and some 1/4oz slip sinkers is all I'd need for a day at Hagg.

Ok, maybe a couple perch cranks. Strike King SX1 & SE3. (hope I remembered those sizes right) the SX1 is very similar to that one in Rogers signature. (Roger that's a Bandit right??)

Ok, maybe a couple spinner baits 3/8oz willow leafs, one black/blue & white. And a pack of Gami siwash hooks to crimp on the main hook as stinger hooks.

Just as a follow up - I looked up all the acronyms and words I didn't understand... and I think i'm set. I actually picked up a few of those things last night. got some plastics, some soft perl-colored minnows... some EWG (I now know what that stands for!!!) hooks.

thanks for bearing with me, y'all. I appreciate all the pointers. And all this for a Ukrainian guy who's never actually seen a bass. thanks!

Ok Boris, Friday night it is.
Don't forget the camera to get a pic of your very 1st bass & your wife's too.
Bring something to drink and snack on. I'll toss in a little cooler and some ice.
The boat has been inspected by the marine folks this year & has all the nessesary safety gear including vests for everyone.
Just remind me to put in the plug when we launch. (that will be your only 1st mate chore.)
Should be fun and we'll get to play w/ some fish I'm sure.
