Couldn't help but think of my niece "Elise Rose" who was also 2 months premature. Many prayers were said for her and I saw her over the 4th of July and she's a healthy happy 4'4" 7 year old. I will pray too. God bless.

Your daughter, wife, and family are in the best of hands with the prayers from Ifish and elsewhere. They are in the second best set of hands with the NeoNatal unit and staff in Eugene. Our grandson was there when born early ~1 1/2 year ago. He is wearing size 3T now, and not at all fat. Praying for the best for your family!

I will pray for your Family and little Emma. My son was only amonth early weighing in at 4lbs 5 oz and 17 inches long. He had to be hooked up to a heart monitor, feeding tube in his mouth, a needle in his hand, and in an enqubatter with soft light prevention gogles on. He was very small but he is now 10 years old. Very lovable and a times cannot sit still. When i was able to take himhome after almost a week. I had to put a thing called a walybe. It made his juhndus go away. One good thing about a premie as your daughter grows you will save on cloths. At times little ones like these take a little longer to grow. My son wore his Premmie and Newborn cloths tell he was 4 months old. Then at 4 months starting wearing 3 months size clothing. It saved a lot on having to buy a lot of clothes all the time. God Bless all of you.

Please PM about a special gift I want to give your wife.

Update on Emma's health. She is a week old today!!!!:meme: She is doing really well for a baby of her gestation. She is back on the pressure O2, but pretty much on room air, just needs a little help. They found a heart murmur on Sunday, gave her some medicine and now the murmur is gone, the vein in heart that would normally close at birth that caused the murmur is almost closed. They did find what might be a little bleeding in her brain, normal for her size and gestation period. Not much they can do for the bleeding other than continue to monitor it. Thank you so much for all the prayers and kind, encouraging words. They are all greatly appreciated.

There seem to be so many babies lately born early. My wife's internet board about babies has a lot of children born premature. Our prayers are with you. I was a premie, without a good outlook back in 1967. Things have come a long way since then. You are in good hands.

Hello all,

Emma is doing very well. They are increasing her feedings each day and she is almost back to her birth weight. The heart murmur is gone, but the vein is still a little open, but the doctors are not worried. She might have a little bleeding on the right side of her brain, but they aren't too worried about that either. Thank you so much for all your prayers and offers of help. I will continue to post updates and new pictures in my gallery.

Wishing I Was Fishing
07-11-2008, 01:36 AM
I woke up awhile ago and couldn't get back to sleep, so I decided to get on-line for a bit. Haven't spent much time on iFish (not nearly as much as I'd like), and I've never been in "The Angler's Chapel" until tonight. I didn't know at the time why I clicked on the link for the "last post," but obviously God knew where I needed to be, so he brought me here.

I've been taking care of babies - newborns up to confident walkers - in our church's nursery for about ten years. I do it every Sunday morning... mostly because I love babies, but also because I enjoy giving parents an opportunity to go and worship or teach without worrying about their little one(s). I know it's a bit unusual for a man to be a nursery worker, but I also know I have a gift, so it usually doesn't take very long - even for the leariest new mothers - for parents to have no concerns about leaving their most precious possession(s) with me.

Just as those parents can rest assured that their baby is safe with me and that I will give him or her the best possible care, I hope you can gain peace in knowing that God is watching out for Emma Rose and that he's providing the best possible care for her.

I have just finished praying for, and I will continue to pray for, Emma Rose, as well as for you and your wife.

Keep us posted on her progress.

- Don

Hello everyone,
Just an update on Emma. She has been doing well lately. The last two days were up and down, they thought she might have an infection because she couldn't keep any milk down for a day, so they put the IV back in and stopped feeding her. Another reason they stopped feeding her is that they had to start the medicine for her heart murmur again. Hopefully she will be able to start back on the milk soon. She is becoming more active and moving a lot more. She can actually turn her head too, so she is a little firecracker, crying and squirming whenever the nurses need to do something. I know all the prayers are working every time I see her. Thank you everyone.

Emma is still doing fine today. She started having more bradys today, that's when her heart rate drops too low. Anyways, you have asked how mom is doing. She is doing really good. She is staying Eugene in a Hotel. She spends almost ten hours every day in the NICU with Emma, she usually doesn't leave except to eat lunch and dinner. I have been commuting to work in Corvallis the last couple of days, but will probably spend a couple of nights in Corvallis this week. Thank you for all your prayers and words of encouragment, I know that we will be stronger for what we are going through. Thank you again.

Hello everyone,

I believe that all the prayers are working. Emma is doing great. She is gaining an ounce a day, she is up to 2 lbs 13 oz as of Sunday night. The heart murmur doesn't seem to be affecting her at all, thankfully. She is actually getting chubby cheeks and her color is a nice pink. We are getting ready to move to the new hospital next Sunday, which will be nice, we will have more privacy because Emma will have her own room as well as a view of the McKenzie River or the Coburg Hills. We are hoping that the new hospital has RV hookups so we can stay in my inlaws RV, if not we will probably stay in a hotel near the freeway. Anyways, thank you for all your prayers and kind words.

Life takes many twists and turns.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
My son was born in August also "premature", but he was fine and I was given months to live. That was fifteen years ago.
One can not always see into the future, but have faith that the path chosen for you while not always making sense....but taking one day at a time brings you to your destination....
I certainly would prefer to know the future, but that is not what was intended.

Hello everyone again. I am sorry it's been so long since the last update, but I have been very busy with work, commuting and spending as much time with Anna and Emma as I can. Anyways, the end is near, we will be home before October!!! The doctor told us one to two more weeks, but I think realistically, three weeks and she will be home. She 4 lbs, 13 oz now, over double her birth weight. She is taking almost all of her feedings from a bottle or nursing or a combination of both, she only needs the feeding tube if she is really tired, which still happens because she has only been bottle feeding for several days now. She is also off of the nose prongs and breathing very well on her own, with very few apnea or bradychardia episodes. She has to go at least a week with no apnea or brady episodes before she can go home. But we are getting the house ready for her, I have to do some work on the furnace, because we won't be able to use the wood stove at all because of her immature lungs, they won't be able to handle the smoke. So we are putting a new fan in the furnace to help heat the house. Then it just needs a good cleaning becuase it hasn't been lived in really for over two months and because Anna was on bedrest, and I was working, the cleaning kind of went by the wayside, so it needs a good deep clean. But we have a bassinet and a car seat and plenty of clothes and blankets, so I think that we have the essentials. Thank you to all of you who responded and said prayers for us, we can't thank you enough, the prayers were answered and Emma is the proof of it. I pray that God blesses everyone of you and gives you the graces to handle the challenges that life presents every day. Again thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hello to all. I have exciting news to share. Emma is coming home on Friday!!! After ten weeks of being in the hospital, we finally get to take her home. She is technically still a month early, 36 weeks corrected, but her growth and development have shocked all the doctors. They usually don't send a baby born at 26 weeks home before 38 weeks, but at 35 weeks Emma was taking all of her feedings from a bottle and her apnea episodes are limited to her feedings, but just to be safe, they are sending us home with a monitor to monitor her heart and respiration, so we can get some sleep between feedings. She is now 36 weeks and continuing to grow like there is no tomorro. Now the real sleepless nights will begin:wink:. But we can't wait to get her home and back to some semblence of a real life. Hospital life wasn't too bad, but it sure will feel nice to be home, especially before deer season, don't tell my wife. Anyway, thank you to all who offered prayers and support over the last two months. I can't thank you all enough. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone of you. I will try to continue to post updates on her progress as she continues to grow and develop into a healthy little girl.
