hey there. new to ifish.
my wife and i are looking to get more into fishing. we've gone out to hagg lake a few times. (once did OK with trout, and just on the 4th hooked some bluegill and perch). we're looking for a few other places to go within an hour or so from portland. looking to do some dock/shore fishing. any ideas ? suggestions?
thanks!
oh. almost forgot. story: (cuz y'all will ask for it soon).
we went on vacation to Loreto, Mexico over Christmas. awful north winds kept the marina closed for most of the time. Finally the day before we left they died down and we were able to get out for half to try our hand at yellowtail fishing. we started off slow, but ended up with a couple barracuda, some strange-looking trumpet fish, baby sea bass, and an 8lb yellowtail. that's what got us into fishing.

Welcome aboard Boris. Try Blue lake off of Marine drive. Also, there are fishing docks at Cathedral park under the St. Johns bridge. There is another set of lakes called Smith and bybee out marine drive also. You should be able to mapquest any of those locations if you don't know where they're at.
Good luck and come back with more stories.

Hagg lake is a good place to fish from shore. If you would like to meet up at Hagg some time I could show you a few things and show you the kind of spots the bass are holding on right now. We can tweek a few things you are doing and you can get 10 to 30 bass a day from shore.

C&R on the big breeders for sure. we'll definitely hook up for heading out on a boat one of these days. I've never fished for bass, but i'd love to give it a try.

Fish EARLY!!!! try topwater early if no luck with that switch to plastics. Try to stick with a small weight so it will not get you hung up all the time in the rocks.

Hey, Boris....WELCOME Aboard! Hey what is that your holding up in the pic? Yellowtail?
Yes, EBG is full of wisdom. Tap into it if you can. And watch for any open seat posted.
Also isn't there a new floating path on the east side of the willamette there in PDX?
Should be a few smallies scattered up/down that rip-rap rock along there.
You & your wife are also welcome to join me & the dog. (I usually post up open seats Friday around 5-6pm )

Good eye, Huntnfish!!!! yes. it's a small yellowtail that I caught over Christmas in Loreto, Mexico. He fought hard for a little guy.

Thanks, Jade. I actually watched a few of them this morning. Made me realize how bad I suck at casting. I'll get it. I think I just need to get on the water with someone knowledgeable who can give me a few tips and correct a few mistakes.
But even with the sucking and the mistakes, and the frustration, I'm having an awesome time fishing.

Sorry Boris, shoulda been more clear. I post up open seats for Sat morning on Friday evening (after I've bagged all my other plans for tuna & halibut for the weekend.)
Friday huh.....well I'll see what I can work out. (My wife works most evenings & so I'm usually on kid duty.)
What other times work for you? I do a lot of Sat morning 1/2 day trips.
Would that work?

most Saturday half/days are perfect. I'm actually heading out with friends this saturday to try some things y'all have suggested. Other than the 26th, I have no saturdays booked.
