Hey All,

I have a Coleman Crawdad (10' plastic jonboat) with an electric motor that I would like to use to take my kids (one at a time) out fishing at Hagg lake. I do not have a trailer, but rather have it in the bed of my pickup truck. When I get to a lake it takes a while to unload the boat, drag it out of the truck, and then reload the boat. My concern is that I will tie up one side of the ramp for a bit while I am doing this. I have done it at Hagg lake two times in the past, but both times were on weekdays in the fall (a few years ago). I have never tried to go in the summer and never on a weekend. Is this going to be a problem? Is there a better place to launch than the C ramp (someplace where I can drive close to the water)? I do not need a ramp, but do need to get within a few feet of the water.

Thanks for any advice/pointers. (I would also be open to other fairly safe places to take my little boat).

BTW, I did take my kids carp fishing again at Mary S. Young park again on Sunday. We only caught 1 sucker and lost one carp (had a lot of bites, but missed most of them). Still the kids had a great time crawling around in the woods while I watched their rods.

Stick to boat ramp "C". It has two docks and more room to get around plus the water skiers tend to head to the "A" ramp. The water is not low yet so the shore may work for launching as well.

have fun!

I used to have a canoe, I just pulled up close to the ramp (not in the launch lane) unload all my stuff, park the van, launch the boat and tie it off then load up on the off side of the ramp. if it is busy just do everything on shore then pull it down to the ramp. once in the water you can attach the motor. give it a shot it may take awhile to get a system down.

I too would use ramp A and just use the left side that almost no one ever uses. You have a right to use the ramp even if you take a few minutes to get ready. Just do it:applause:.

Thanks for the advice. I do understand that I have the right to use the ramp. However I do not want to get into a contentious situation when I am there with my 8yr old girl or 4yr old boy. I want the whole trip to be enjoyable for them! I am willing to give up some of my rights to make that happen.

I also want to stay in the no wake portion of the lake since my boat is quite small. I thought that the A ramp was in the make as much wake as you want section.

Thanks,

It's a short distance from Ramp A to the no wake zone.

If you go early you will not have a problem and fishermen are nice.
Skiers and jet skiers who knows.

They've increased the distance from Ramp A to get to the no wake zone. Skiers must have needed more room. It's quite a ways out, pretty close to Ramp C. Ramp C would be calmer - IMHO. I've seen people launch small craft from the picnic table areas between Ramp C and the Handicap platform. Drive around out there - see what you think.

Go to ramp C for sure...mostly fishermen there and hopefully they will either help you or have a little patience. Don't worry about taking too long...if someone complains, just smile and wave...with all five fingers that is!

I agree, C launch.

Also, check the Oregon Marine regs......buddy got a warning on having an electric motor on a raft w/o boat registration over on the Snake Rvr. I wasn't sure but thought gas yes, elec no, on the boat registration....we were wrong.

Swing by Joes and pick up a set of regs. They can also help you register it. Seems we were also supposed to have a whistle & paddles too. Had the paddle, but no whistle...they gave us one. Pretty nice & professional Deputies over there on the Snake, warnings only....wouldn't expect the same out at Hagg though.

Have a good time and don't forget the camera...we'll expect a pic or two w/ your report.

Thanks for all the advice (from everyone)!

I do keep my boat registered even though I have not been using it - makes me feel like I am at least trying :)

I did not get to Hagg this past weekend (did hit the Willamette briefly from shore with the kids, posted a report). It will likely be a few weeks before I get an open weekend because my 8 year old daughter is a swimmer and that ends up consuming most weekends.

Boat ramp C will be closed this Saturday from 5 A.M. until about 1 for a triathlon so I have been told. So imagine what boat ramp A will be like.

The facilities department said should be ok to launch after 1 O'Clock.

Have fun with the boys and enjoy your day. You wanted it to be as hassle free as possible and with young ones it could add a little frustration.

I hope one of them catches Walter.........and has some fish tales.

:D

Totally polite !! :excited: Right on !

Wish all were like you. When I take my Kayaks out I pull them off to the side real quick then get out of the way of trailer boaters. Seems to work real good. :twocents:
