I am headed to Brownlee tomorrow and staying through the weekend!!! :excited:
I've only been there one other time and need some smallie tips.
I am new to smallmouth fishing, but plan on hitting it hard out there. I picked up some plastics and a few crankbaits, what colors should I be using?
Thanks for any tips, look for pictures and fishing report next Tuesday... :D

The only thing I can think of from my trip ealier this year is........if you are not catching them.....then try deeper. We caught a few fish early, but when i got back it seemed that the more experienced Brownlee fisherman caught plenty but were down 15-25 ft deep.
things have probably changed though.
I'm sure others will chime in. I'd stick with the natural colors first like browns, greens, blacks.
The places I had best luck were the "mounds"....or more gentle slopes into the water. Granted the water was WAY low when I went, but the rocky cliff type cover wasnt nearly as productive as the gentle emergence of rocks from the water.
you'll figure it out...no prob.
Its a fun place to try everything....so try everything! :meme:

brownlee is like the lake of dreams, ..."if you throw it, they will come"
You will eventually find out what works, and it wont be hard...by now, the fish are probably 8-12 feet deep in 15 feet of water.
sorry to be so understating, but if you try different baits, fished at different speeds( very important, alot of times a slower retreive works better) you'll get em...
have fun!!

oh yeah, one more thing...the easiest was to find gradual drop offs is wherever you see those huge erosion slides...where big chunks of the hillside are gone...there will be a more gradual bottom..on the edges of those has produced some nice fish....
trust your fishfinder too...there is very little debris in the water...my lowrance is never wrong:)
Prepair for very hot weather. Brownlee is at a record high water level. Fishing should be good. Just returned from that area today.
Good Luck

You won't be the only one over there.

I haven't been since the middle of May so who knows what the fish are doing now. Finding the depth of the fish will be the big key. There will always be some smaller ones near the shore and you should have no problems catching those but if you are looking for bigger fish then you will have to hunt around for them. You will catch fish.
Like raptorschild said natural colors do usually work best but I have seen white work there during the summer as well.

Hello,
Was there two weeks ago the bait that worked the best was 4 inch dead ringer
in green pumpkin by Zoom 1/8 oz jig head in black. Some nice fish 16 inches.

big black lizards are fun to throw in hells canyon and tan worms. small rapalas and rooster tails, black with red skirt. every thing will catch bass.

Don't forget to try topwater very early and late evenings. If they aren't hitting it in the back of inlets then slow it down or stop it. Nothing beats a fish hammering the topwater.:D
There should be bait fish in the back of most coves by now.
