I currently have a 18ft center console sled and was wanting to mount the VHF radio I have on top (there is a 10x22" shelf on top). The VHF is a Uniden Solara, it states it is submersible yet states you should mount out of spray and splash:shrug:

I could mount it inside the console but I would not use it much as there is a door which is a pain, running the mic out of the door would likely cut it in time.

I could use a flush mount kit but cutting the hole would be a real pain and there is not a ton of room on the console, just on top.

Question: How waterproof are these units?
Should I mount it inside the door even though it is inconvenient?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

If your radio has remote channel change functions like most do now, just remote mount your mic in a convenient place and than you only have to open the console to turn it on or off.

Thanks for the thought, my radio does not have the remote channel change option, might still work though.
