I have a seastar hydraulic steering system in my boat. What is the recommended fluid? Can I use standard power steering fluid?

Chummer,
You can buy the matched Seastar PS Fluid at North River store in Clackamas hwy 212. They use Seastar on thier boats.

about 18 bucks a quart. I have almost a full quart I can give you if you just need to top off. you also need the filling adaptor.

Don't use anything but approved seastar fluid or the mil spec equivalent.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the info!:flowered: Blue hewes, I appreciate your offer! I'd have to meet you in the middle of the CR next week during the summer fishing fiasco. Would a small funnel work or do you have to use a special filler to accomplish this task?

I don't thlnk a funnel would work. I'll let you barrow the adaptor to as long as I get it back.
The adaptor allows you to add fluid without letting air into the system.

I have the same hyd steering on my O/S . If your steering station is the same as mine. I have found using the tube thing is not that good a thing.
I found if you just pore the fuid in from to bottle till the reservoir is full
them install the cap and and turn the wheel in both direction them back to
center them recheck to level and add as req till full you get a better fill.
with less hassle. Just my way. And I do not get air in the system this way.

I thought if you free pour you'll also force air into it? If you need to bleed then the only way is the tube. But I don't really know, I just followed the instructinos. I'll give you the tube and you can make up your own mind.
