I hope this already wasn't a topic (I'am new). I tried to search it and found nothing. Just a heads up with individuals with inboard/outboard motors with transom mounted exhaust ports.

The other week I was trolling down river and got snagged up wth my rod, in an attempt to free it I gunned the kicker in reverse to go back up river. In the process, which I didn't find out until later, was that this extended reverse (about 2 min) had forced water up my exhaust port. This water then flowed back over the top of the exhaust manifold and went into my cyliders. Needless to say, when I tried to start the motor it instantly hydro siezed. I use my kicker motor a lot in both forward and reverse, it was just the extended time full bore in reverse that caused this.

It was an easy fix, just removed the spark plugs and turn the motor over a couple times to clear the water; also 3 oil changes. It runs great, just like before.

Hope this saves someone else the hassel.

Don't you have flappers to close off your exhaust ports ...
I have backtrolled with My boat on the kicker and never had a problem like that ...
Maybe the run of flex exhaust line from the manifolds dosn't have enough drop to prevent this problem of yours ...

hello, fishkisser is right about the exhaust flaps. that is until they deteriorate. the best cure is to add extensions between the manifolds and risers. this may not be possible due to clearance between floor and top of engine. go as high as you can.
water seeks its own level so the higher you go the harder it is to force water into the exhaust manifold.
