OK. I know this is operator error but bear with me.

On Friday, while using the big motor, I neglected to bring up the electric trolling motor. When I got the motor powered up a bit, I stressed the locking mechinism and POP... that was that. I was unable to tilt my motor. Any idea how to repair? I looked at it and clearly I busted something off.

It is an older MinnKota 3HP, red button push activates the tilt and then it clicks into place. Pretty standard, not too fancy.

I guess I know see why guys always pull up the electric motor before powering up the big motor.:passout:

easy fix, its a funny piece looks like a capitol "T", you can buy new ones from Minkota, I busted mine the same way, the hassle is if your fishing it makes for a PIA all day with no trim lock, I decided I didnt like there cheasy lock.

I made my T out of a 1/4" alum sheet I had around, works slick and dont break if you forget it... will make a little noise nack there and remind you...you forgot again, lol.

Budnate,
Thanks. After messing up our trailer yesterday, I'm glad this will be a pretty easy (and cheap) fix. I bet I could get a kid in the metals program at the school where I teach to help me make something a little better than the plastic minnkota piece.

Ollie Damon's carries t-bars for less than 3 bucks. I know I will get yelled at because they are not an i fish sponsor but is there an i fish sponsor that stocks these? don't think so.

Cheers R.G.

And if you get "yelled at" for helping a guy out with a motor prob. then someone has too much time to yell.

I'll check at O.D. Can't tell you how dumb I felt busting the motor on Friday.

PS. I tried to give this post a thumbs up for you. Guess I need better glasses.

they make and sell two T's...one plastic and one metal. The plastic go for the lower power motors and the metal go for the 55 and 74's.

I know as I have bought both. The plastic ones where just over a buck. I suggest you buy a few of the plastics and not go with a metal one...Cheap insurance. They are designed that way to protect you from breaking the teeth out of the main bracket that costs way more than a buck or two. Ask me how I know that one.

Good tip. Some guys might just think save money and get a metal one. We bought a plastic one yesterday. I'll make sure I have an extra next time.
