I was working on my boat last night and noticed alot of steam/smoke coming from the oil cap on the valve cover. I was on a fairly steep ramp (Barton) and had the engine idling high (2800). When I backed it down to a slow idle the smoke/steam went away. Is it just evaporating condensation in the valve cover? Checked my oil and there isn't any water present so I assumer my block is fine. Thanks in advance.

How's the oil look, compression OK?? The PVC valve should suck all that into that engine. Could be normal, combustion products are co2 and h2o.
What kind of powerplant do you have?

Check your closed cooling system also for oil ...
Most likely normal evaperation of condenced water ...
If you run the motor with frequent intervals of rest it will make a little more than normal ..

It's probably normal, but it wouldn't hurt to check the items already mentioned.
