I am having boat motor problems and looking for advice. This is what I got, it is a 40HP johnson VRO, it idles good and runs good at low speeds. But when you open it up to full throtle it will run good for 30 sec. or so then it starts cutting out. I have replaced the fuel pump, filter, line, hand primer, and rebuild the carbs. This last weekend I took it out to try and find the problem, I found that someone pumps the hand primmer while at full throtle it runs great. Any advice would be a great help. Thanks

I would replace the hose from your tank to the motor...

Check to see if the vent valve on your fuel tank is completly open.

Good Luck

Its getting air somewhere. The hose connection leak when the rubber seals get tired, look there too.

Hi
Check the pickup tube on your gas tank
I had a similar running problem and I changed gas lines and no fix
I went to my spare gas tank and it ran perfect
The pickup tube was to close to the bottom and it would limit the fuel to my engine.

It was a brand new tank defective from the factory

yes, OMC is very careful to specify what dia line, exactly...As i recall and memory is fuzzy the change in size is at 25 HP...

also, the plastic squeeze clamps OMC sold for awhile on fuel connectons - while good - will degrade over time in UV, replace them, all and carry a few spares.
