Put in noon Saturday, 50degrees, 20 mph north wind, caught 3 in 1/2 hr (9 1/2 - 12") trolling red head/chartreuse skirt crappie jig tipped with tuna oil marinated shoe peg corn (thanks ouzel) behind sling blade dodger behind mack's lite flasher behind 1oz lead with 75 feet of line out. Caught fish trolling about 75 yds off west shore (the one with the cabins (mansions?) from north end (outlet) to 2d point (about 1/2 way up lake), most trolling seems to be at south end. After first 1/2 hr, wind went to 30, temp down to 40 and rain, sent me packing. I'm sure I would have caught more. I could see it snowing about 6000feet on the mountains above the lake, the lake is at 4300 and there is no more beautiful setting in the country. Hope this helps anybody headed Wallowa way.

That is definitely a gorgeous lake that I have many fond memories of. Thanks for the great visuals.

6/24 I fished about 2/3 up the East bank with my 5 and 7 year old. We had 3 limits of rainbows in 1.5 hours. We fished worms 4.5 feet under bobbers. The kids had a couple doubles, and my 7 year old caught 3 fish off the same worm. It was our first time there, what a great lake.:meme:

We are heading up there in August with the kids. Is it possible to jig for kokanee. I was debating about dragging my boat up there. I was thinking I might just bring a canoe instead. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, according to those in the know, jigging is a good way to go if you can locate a school. Crappie tube jigs with a stinger, both tipped with corn, are supposed to be good They should be schooled-up in August. The folks at the Marina are very helpful and I have no doubt they will point you in the right direction to search out a school and will give you depth info. They also rent boats and canoes. Just lately I've been getting reports of Kokes up to 20 inches from the lake and a friend caught 16 and 18 inchers. According to F&H News they're averaging 14 inches. That all sounds great to me.
