So I know this is sort of a Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge thing, but when I get a new sled its gonna have a 200-225 Hp outboard. I was just wondering what people have got and how they like them. If you were gonna get a new one, how would you go? Looking specifically at Yamaha HPDI, Yamaha HPDI VMax, Evinrude ETEC, or the Mercury Optimax Pro XS. I've heard great things about the ETEC and Optimax and Yamaha has been around for quite some time. Another thing I wonder is about pump selection. I've heard the Evinrude will not accept a super pump (New larger high volume pump) Seems like Mercury has the edge in pump selection. And the greatest motor in the world can't function without a good pump.

You might go do some research on another forum. Google The Hull Truth.

Go with a Yamaha...I own the 225tlr "sport" 4 stroke and it's killer. Excellent hole shot and good on fuel and really quiet. This is a different beast than the old 4 strokes. Go with a vmax hpdi on a boat under 22' due to weight.

I was looking at the new 4strokes but they are quite a bit heavier. the pro xs is around 425lbd and the vmax is about 485. Im thinking a 175 hpdi vmax would be the ticket on a 20 footer
