I'm here dreaming about my next boat build. I have a 18' SX I'm going to sell and want to upgrade to a LXV. I'm thinking a 24' with twin 200 Verado's and a pro kicker. My question is, is there anything on your boat that couldn't live without? Or is there anything you wish you had? I'm just geting ideas of what I should ask for. The boat will be used for anything and everything, how else do you justify spending 70+ grand, mainly the CR but will take it everywere. If you have any pics I would love them too. Thanks for the help.

We have a 22' 2007 Motion Marine as you see in the photo.

We put alot of thought in to the REQUIRED features it MUST have.

John and Mark at Motion Marine were great to work with. It took us (not them) about a month to finalize and place our order. IT'S PERFECT!!!

We really like the crab daviot and custom crab tray. The suspension seats are nice during rough water. The tower with 2 front lights, 2 deck lights, GPS and tow hook looks great. Oh the two side chairs out back are comfortable. We went with a 225 Honda and a 15 Honda kicker.

For ocean going we went with a 100 gallon fuel tank and a fuel flow meter.

When you go to Motion Marine, take your camera and snap pictures of the boat's that are there. Then you can double check things at home.

Every step from ordering to the build of our boat was a JOY! They never minded me coming in once or twice a week to see my boat and take pictures.

We had a TR-1 installed after we took delivery of our boat. I often go fishing by myself and the TR-1 is my fishing buddy.

Send me a PM if you want more pictures.

Enjoy the process,

I just sold :( my 22ft LXV Hardtop w/OS bracket & 225 Suzi due to moving to Tennessee.

Some must haves:
-Offshore bracket
-Foldable ladder on the OS bracket (I had a 4-rung foldable - excellent for getting into & out of the boat both in the water & on the trailer).
-100gal tank (I had the 50gal and regretted not going to the 100gal).
-(2) 1100gph (min) bilge pumps.
-Radar Arch/Tower (had one on my 20ft SX and regretted not putting it on my 22ft LXV - I wanted radar & a better solution for the net).
-Washdown System
-Onboard Battery Charger
-(2) Accessory Plugs (1-Drivers side / 1-passenger side for cell phones, etc...)
-(2) Rear work lights (I can't count how many hours I put on the rear lights getting things ready late night or early AM)
-Rear mooring/sloping cover (kept people from eyeing what was inside when parked)
-Suspension seats (was going to upgrade to the larger option, but sold before I did)
-Disc brakes & brake flush on trailer
-grab rail(s) in inside center of hardtop (didn't have but would have been handy)
-digital gauge package with fuel flow

I went with the transom cut-out for the kicker instead of having it mounted on the OS bracket. I thought I would regret that decision, but really enjoyed running the kicker from my movable swivel seat. Very comfortable and no leaning over the transom to steer or fuss with the kicker.

If I were to do it again, I would have them do a closed bow. Spent most of my time on the CR & Ocean and didn't like the "bucket factor" of the recessed bow when a big wave said hello. My fishbox was in the front step-up... but I recall seen another design where it was in the back of the boat (I think back would be preferred). The front fishbox was huge and had two drains that were welded straight down under bow (would shoot water up into box if not plugged). It had an overflow drain fitting on front of bow. The overflow fitting would bring water into the box when the waves slapped the bow and couldn't keep a "dry" box because of it. They may have improved the design, but in hindsight I would have put in in the back of the boat - in a simular design to duckworth's "fisherman's package".

As Geemo said, Mark, John & crew are absolutely great to work with. Had them build two boats and regret having to sell my LXV (wish it was a bass boat... lol). They listen to their boat owners and their designs reflect the feedback they've gotten. I'm going to start playing the lottery so I can retire, move back to Portland and have them build me an Offshore model.

Enjoy!

300 on a lite 24' is not wise. imo but have at it in a world of $5-$6 / gal marine gas

Why wouldn't a 300 be a good choice?

I'd opt for a closed bow as well. I'm not a big fan of their "open" bow. I'd want a taller windshield and would of liked true air rides or mariner seats that get me up off the floor. Welded 1" square tube for rails vs bolt on round. :twocents:

I would think that twin Suzi 115's or 150's would be plenty of powe to push the 24ft. The single Suzi 225 (16" SS prop) pushed my 22ft LXV @ 50mph WOT 4-people, 1/2 tank of gas, but rarely had flat water on the CR or big blue to run it up to that (or the desire to hear the $$ getting sucked from the tank).

I rely like what I've heard about the verodo. I was first thinking about twin 150s but the 200s are only $600 each more. Have you had 6 people and gear in it? My sx has a 200 optimax, when i load 5 or 6 in it it is a real dog. I just don't whant to be under powered.

yes I have on a much heavier 24' alu w F4-250 it can run above 40 in flat stuff. IF you want to fish the salt, you will rarely see speeds above half that.

I guess if you want to go 50+ and burn something on the order of 35 GPH, have at it. IF speed is what you want, why get a Motion?.....

think thru what 35 gph at $4 per gallon will do to you wallet..

I would agree that some features of the verado are attractive. Power steering and fly by wire controls. Supercharger in salt does not thrill me. The wrung out 4 banger vs. V-6, while making HP might not make torque like a V6, although with two of them that might not matter. 2 will be a LOT of weight aft. The heavy reliance on Porsche and Lotus engineering to get the motor done, make me wonder about the engineering talent at Merc, only time will tell. At least, Merc understands that the future is a 4-stroke world. One the BIG plus side...The verado also seems to be built using modern manufacturing methods and process capability based qual controls. There is a fairly good artice in Pro Boat Builder w a mini Verado plant tour...
