Over the weekend of the fourth (I know its a ways out) I'll be staying at some campground in or around Sun river.

I'll be looking for help on where to go and what to try and catch. I've never bean there. The inlaws invited us to go to a Thousand trails camp ground with them.

Looks like several of the lakes you guys talk about are in the area.

Now the questions you must answer are what do you want to fish for and do you have a boat?

I guess I didnt give enough info.

Yes we will have a boat and a canoe. The boat is a 16 foot sled with prop, trolling motor and downriggers.

I'de like to target crappie and catfish a bit because we dont have that much around here. We would also like to chase kokanee. My father in law keeps talking of some lake with big brook trout in it he wants to try for, so that will get some effort too. Not sure I'm interested in lake trout, but I hear theres some around, so we may try that also.

You won't find crappie and catfish. Crane Prairie, Wickiup and Davis are infested with bass.

The Deschutes should be within walking distance, browns and rainbows there for you. Rapalas for the big browns in the wee hours, fly fishing can be good in the evening, worms are legal!

Odell and Crescent lakes are a little farther to drive. Wickiup granted us more fish, that was a couple weeks ago.

Paulina and East lakes are remarkably beautiful.

Little Cultus has some nice brookies. Lava Lake can be very good.

Fall River is very close, you can see the fish and they can see you - fly fishing only.

The possibilities are many many.

Very well said. Bravo ! I love most of those spots & agree. Odell probably my favorite.
