I'll be camping with some friends in one of the yurts on Lake Simtustus this weekend. I've never been and know almost nothing about the fishing there. Anybody care to share any tips, pointers, warnings, etc? Will have boat, 1 downrigger, depth finder, and the usual trout gear in tow.
Would like to get into some kokes, but would be happy with some trout, too, if the kokes aren't cooperating. What little intel I've been able to glean suggests I should motor up into the "narrows" near the dam early to fish for kokes. Any other pointers? How long does that run take from Pelton Park @10 mph ?
I'll have by 2 year-old with me in the boat and so far she really loves fishing, but that's only because she's never had to wait very long until we hook something. Don't want to scare her off fishing with a looong skunkola.
PMs welcome. Thanks for any tips, folks!

I've done well fishing up near the deadlie underneath the waterfall. I usually troll fenders with wedding rings and corn at 20 pulls.

The inlet holds lots of warmwater fish, I threw a topwater plug from camp at dawn, and it was non stop action for 2 hours. I drew a crowd to watch the fish attack.

A guy i work with lives just a couple minutes from the lake. He fished the area where willow creek dumps in with his two kids last week and they had a blast with the smallmouth, fish on almost everycast and great sightfishing. they also motor up to the dam and fish worms or worms/corn under bobbers and have pretty consistent action. Don't forget the tribal permit, one permit will cover the whole family in the boat. Good Luck

Hi,
I've been going to simtustus every year for the last 15 years or so. I will be there this coming Sunday. The koke and trout fishing is always excellent this time of year. We have the best luck trolling starting at indian camp going upstream into the narrows. Use ford fenders, wedding rings, and worms or corn. Last year we could'nt get a bite on corn at all. It was worms all the way. Water temp will have a lot to do with how deep you end up fishing. We'll be staying in A27 if you would like to stop by and visit. IMHO it is one of the best trout/koke lakes around.
Enjoy!
P.S. It takes about a 1/2 hour to reach the narrows at 10 mph

thanks for the great replies, fellas! Any advice on plugs for the smallies? Rapalas? Any size to the smallies? I know I need a tribal permit, but I'm not sure where to pick one up -- any help?

my boss fished it yesterday. He said he caught a few kokes and a ton of smallies. I'll call him and ask him what he caught the bass on.

They sell them at Bimart as well.. call the resort and see if they are selling them.
Got off the phone with my boss he caught his smallies on castmasters.. i would have never thought about catching them with a castmaster. He caught his kokes using 1oz lead followed by a leader and a needlefish with corn.

You can pick up a tribal permit at the store/marina next to Pelton Park. I think they are about $28.00 for the year. Randy and Kathy run the store. They will take care of you
