I have a new 21' Pro-Stealheader E/T. I am wondering how to best care for the aluminum hull. I plan on doing a lot of salt fishing. Any advice???

Hey there PaPa,
Obviously I'm a bit partial, but if you prefer the way it looks now (shiny mill finish) over the way unprotected hulls look, nows the time to get a couple coats of Sharkhide on it. It's best to do it before it hit's the water instead of after.
Like the other gentelmen said, that's my two cents worth.

Make sure there are good anodes on the boat not just the motor.

Also make sure there in no ground to Chassie anywhere, keeping them looking pretty can be a lot of work, I gave up after a couple years, good ole fresh water rinse...lot's of it, don't miss a spot, trailer, & wheels too.

If you want shiny use sharkhide.
Egg goo and fish blood really compliment dull, dented aluminum.:twocents:

Even if you don't want shiny, Shark Hide is a great protectant. I have had mine on for almost 4 yearss now and it's still protecting. My only wish was the bozo before me who owned the boat would have used it.:flowered:

I even take my Boat to a Lake, or River a few times each year, & bucket freah water to above floor line to get to the places a hose can't reach, but than I often fish for Tuna, & Halibut, & Blood get's everywhere, Saltwater too.

Go look at craigs list, and type in the search for boat polishing. They are in Washougal, and they do a good job spraying sharkhide. Had some friends that had them polish and sharkhide, and it looks good. Suppose to last years because they spray it and get a lot of it on the surface.

Shark hide is good stuff. I put it on my boat before it ever made it into the water. I masked off all of the paint and took very special care to apply 2 even coats. looked perfect when I got done. The second time I filled up with gas, fuel spit out the filler neck ran down the side of the boat and wiped out a nice 1ft strip of the sharkhide. I was very P.O.'d and disappointed. All the other areas I put it on still look great a tear and a half later. I am thinking about re-doing it. any tips? On the other hand, I dont really think the fish care how my aluminum finish looks:D.

Polishing let alone cleaning aluminum hulls is a constant chore and one that will cause you undue mental anguish trying to keep it up and looking new.
Leave all that behind you and since you have a new ride, cover it with vinyl. Best time is new as there are likely no surface blemishes and minimizes prep time. You can do it in any color of your choosing, you can pin stripe it, flame it, put on wild graphics, and if you change your mind in 3-5 years you can start all over for a third the cost of paint. You really have to be up close to tell its not paint and even then if done correctly is difficult to tell.
I did it on my new 22' Seahawk and I will never go another way again!!!

:yeahthat: Had mine done almost 3 years ago. Cleans up with a hose and a sponge, and looks great. The only way to fly....
