Finally got a pass to leave early on Sat. morning (4:30am)and arrived at the lake with high expectations (should've been a red alert right there!) Loaded all the gear into the little boat for a quiet electric motor day. Backed the trailer in while my buddy pulls the boat off the trailer, then pulled away and parked. Came back down to the ramp to see the water was a muddy mess!!!! If only I had looked at the water first like I had always done in the past-we would've just drove away to somewhere else. Well-we're all prepared now- might as well give it a try. Looked at some tree branches in the water- couldn't see a foot into the water. We trolled around for an hour without a bite- put the boat right back on the trailer.
Now it's an hour back to the freeway and another hour at least to another lake. So much for the early start. Made our way to Mineral Lake- never been there and just wanted to give a new place a try. Turned out to be not that great of an idea! At least it was calm and easy to motor around- the rain even quit after about two straight hours of it. Fish were jumping everywhere but not biting our offerings anyway. The place was actually quite a zoo- at least 20 boats on the lake- with the prerequisite 2 boatloads of obnoxious drunks who could be heard from anywhere on the lake yelling and swearing back and forth to each other. We tried alot of stuff in our tackle boxes that day, but only a fly could now and then catch a fish. (people with bait and flashers were catching some fish) We fished till 8pm and called it a long drive home. Caught 7 small trout.
Drove 315 miles (6 hours) and spent $65 on gas. That's about 45 miles per fish @ $9 each! Got home at 10:30pm. An 18 hour day (true-it wasn't work) Was so tired that I jumped up out of bed the next morning thinking I forgot to set the alarm and was already late for work! Ohhhhh........yeah, that's right- it's only Sunday-whew!
