I went fishing friday at a local reservoir and caught five landlocked chinook salmon while bank fishing with a Thomas. They were all small. The biggest was only about ten inches.
Are landlocked chinook salmon's life cycles the same as kokanee?
If I go back in a couple of months will they be much bigger?
How big do they get before they spawn?

When having trouble with taste from lake fish, make sure you SKIN them taking ALL the dark (FAT) from under their hide.
I do not believe they tase bad this time of year, most of the time is when the algee is in bloom.

It's just the way they are, the meat is white, that big one there was just a little pink! Trust me I know how to cook fish, these chinook out of GP are worse than planter trout, my :twocents: I would be interested to see what they are like out of Detroit?

Does any one know what happened to the Chinook the ODFW planted in
LBC back in the 70's to control the Kokanee?

Only landlocked I caught were last year when I was trolling a crankbait in a reservoir I hadn't fished but maybe one other time. Hooked up on 2 that were a little bigger than the one pictured. The meat was almost a ruby color and was excellent eating.

My wife caught a 17 " chinook out of detriot 3 years ago in January and to date I've never had a better tasting lake fish. The meat looked like sockeye and for along time I thought it was a kokenee until I showed a picture to a fish and game official and he pointed out the black mouth. He said definetly a chinook. If some could tell how to load pictures on this site I'll post it.

The chinook in Green Peter this year have orange meat and were ok smoked. They are not white like last year.

Question...
Are people getting these fish the same depth and method as Kokanee??
I fish GP alot and never have caught one...
Well over 8in. anyways.
I seen a few native steelhead jumping in Foster last time i was there.
ODFW takes the Nates that are in the trap above the dam.

To answer the growth question, yes they will grow at a tremendous rate if they have decent conditions, all species of salmon seem to have a really interesting ability to grow overnight.
