Spent yesterday out on the water shrimping with my friends. A great day to be sure. Plenty of shrimp and lots of fun had by all. And to top it off it i managed a beautiful cutthroat.
As we were unloading people onto the beach for a bathroom break, i heard a splash behind me. thinking for sure it was one of my friends tossing rocks to trick me i ignored it until i took a second look around and saw it couldnt have been anything but a fish.
I quickly stripped reel off my line and launched a cast out towards the receding ripples. As my fly sank i stripped off more line for my next cast and then started to strip the fly slowly towards me. It might have moved about an inch before it got hammered by a nice fish the proceded to cartwheel out of the water, jumping 6 times before coming to hand.
1 cast, 1 fish and a cherry on top to a perfect day.:meme:

I didnt measure it against anything but it was probably about 16 inches. I hope to find a bigger one for the competition.
The fly was one of my super secret flies that I may reveal one day ;)
Here is a bad pic against the rod.

ahhh hell it was a long day pulling pots by hand.

I went shrimping on saturday as well and managed another one-cast fish.
my engine was acting up on me(thnk i need new spark plugs) so i was floating just off shore while I tried to figure out my next move, when I look down in the water and see a nice cutt just sitting there.
So i grab the rod, strip some reel off my line(just for you SC;) ) and drop my fly right on his head. It sinks down towards him, I twitch it once, and he climbed all over it. Very much fun to watch the fish react to the fly and see the whole process of the take. made me understand how i can fish this pattern better in the future.

I use to live in Bremerton Washington and I would catch hundreds of cut casting from shore great place to fish is down town silverdale near the old folks home there is a small inlet and it gets chocked with cutts in the early fall
