Okay so I have a wonderful 9'6" 4 peice 5 wt lamiglas that I use for dry flies and I recently inherited a gorgeous classic hardy reel that I am going to pair it with. My question is can anyone help me refinish the rod with a new handle and reel seat as the dirty funky chipped cork and black plastic that it currently has just doesn't do the reel justice? I will purchase the materials and would be willing to compensate for labor with cash or a wealth of deschutes expertise. The only catch is I would like to complete this before the last week in june and I don't have the time to do it myself right now. I would like to keep the total cost around 60-70 bucks. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated:)

Toss this over in the rod building forum and you might get some other responses. If you go with a nickel silver Struble reel seat with a wood insert - retail on the parts are going to get close to your $60 figure not counting the time to strip the old and install the new so you might be a tad light for a custom builder to take on

Check with Fly & Field in Bend Oregon. They work with a guy named Brad Hansen. Brad does fantastic work on fly rods and has refinished several of mine. (new wraps, cork, guides, etc) his pricing and turn around time is good too.

Thanks Stick! I have an inside line on the materials I want for around 30 bones. I don't know if 30-50 bucks for labor is reasonable or not but I would like to try and get it done soon. I will look up the guy in bend but would like to try someone on this side of the hill to avoid gas and/or shipping.

No problem I was just spec'ing up a Rainshadow IF967 this morning and looking at reel seats when I saw your post. You sure don't have to go all the way to nickel silver to make it look good. The rod I'm doing needs to be green in a big way, but the green matrix seats are just too high tech for my taste for fly.
