When i was younger, as a family we used to stay at a cabin on the coast that was on a stream with cuts and rainbows. I miss the scenery and peace that went a long with walking along the stream and occasionally catching a trout. I was wondering if anyone knew of a stream that is accessible and i could walk and fish for quite a ways near the corvallis area. I don't need to catch a ton of fish I just want to get back into the scenery and peace that I used to enjoy. Thanks for any suggestions!

The Alsea system has some nice cutts in it and is in some amazing country. As you get to the forks you can be in more solitude.

Especially the North Fork by the hatchery. It's pristine in January and February. :D

The Metolius isn't that far from Corvallis and is about as scenic as you can get. Plus the fishing can be pretty good (it also can be pretty frustrating - if you go talk to the fly shop in Sisters).

be careful walking the Met. it is deeper then it looks you step into what looks like a 2 foot hole and it might just be 10 foot it is a dangerous river to walk rp

The alsea and it's tributaries are the closest to what you described that I know of. The mary's upstream of philomath has quite a few small cutts in it (4" is typical, 8" is a monster) but it can be difficult to find access because of private property. I have caught cutthroat in avery park but pikeminnow are far more common.

How far are you willing to drive by the way?

Give Quartzville Creek a shot, not too far from Corvallis, upstream of Green Peter. Nice place for a 3 wt. and stimulator.

Come find me, I work (live) at the N.F. hatchery. I can shoot you in a few directions. Lots of wade/fish water, decent cutts, 7-14".

There are spots on the N. fork, S. fork, mainstem... pretty much anywhere you'll find fish. Lots of access this time of year. None of that winter chaos!:passout:

You need to go to the Starker Forest office that's located between Corvallis and Philomath. You can get an access permit from them to go into the TumTum timber plot. You can walk the Mary's River for miles and catch fish all day long.

They usually have the gates locked (which is perfect cause it keeps out 99.99% of people), so ride your bike in and I can almost guarentee you won't see another soul all day.

PM me if you wanna know more.
