I am looking for some help. My 8 year old son wants to do some fishing:meme:, but I have only been flyfishing for trout in the last decade. I bought a driftboat and am looking for a nice lake to fish for crappie and/or bass (trout if you have suggestions). I am not looking for your private best kept secret, but the Deschutes and an 8 year old dont work for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I live in the Gresham area, but am willing to travel.

Thanks,
DH

After around the 4th of july Trillium lake on mt. Hood holds lots of trout.
Hagg lake for bass or trout (early morning most of the time).
Crappie, Silver Lake (Washington) is good late summer and throught the fall.
Lacamas Lake in Washington has bass, Crappie and trout.

DH, Take a drive up to Benson Park, just this side of Multnomah Falls. Theirs a couple little ponds you can fish from the shore.

Or, you could throw the DB in at Rooster Rock SP and fish the lagoon.
Or like Roger said....Hagg Lk.
Kids are easy to please, doesn't take much. Just get him out.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I take it that both Benson Lake and the Rooster Rock lagoon hold bass and/or crappie. I think crappie would be preferred for the pure numbers and the fun of fishing with jigs.

DH, yes both hold Bass & Panfish.
Another suggestion might be Sauvie Island. McNary Lk over by the Gilbert Rvr launch or both the Gilbert & Crane Slough just up from the main Gilbert launch.
I also suspect that the bay at Mayor SP up by The Dalles should hold Crappie...I know it holds bass, SM & LM.
A couple more idea's anyway. All protected water within rowing distance.

I do expect a story & pics of your boy's catch as my reward for the info.
