Has anyone seen the Willamete today(below the falls), it looks like it suppose to go down about 6", but it sounds really high. Does anyone know if it is fishable for Saturday. I was also thinking about Lacamas Lake. What do you guys think. I was even kicking around going to Hagg, but that is over 100 mile trip for me. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Chet

Im pretty much in the same boat as you, i dont think i would go to hagg if i was in your situation, i may be wrong but i didnt catch too many last weekend there and for a hundred mile trip i feel like you could find something a little closer...Im intrested to hear about the willamette also although i think it might be another weekend, wow i sound really negative haha I cant wait till fishing gets hot!

hagg is a long drive for the minimal action. probably a better chance at lacamas, but i dunno how good its gonna be now that its going to be a rainy weekend

Thanks guys for the opinions. I am leaning towards Lacamas, but it would be my first time ever fishing it, so I am leary about that. I know the Willy well, but it the water is crazy who knows. Anybody else?

Also, does anybody know what the water looks like above the Falls. Is it in any better shape than below, like Wilsonville down to the Falls? Just trying to have some options.

the willy concerns me this weekend. not only is the flow over 45000cfs above the falls,
but the temp has absolutely plummeted over the last 5 days. it's dropped from 15C down to 9.5C. high flow combined with falling temps has been a recipe for disaster in my experience. seems like the only hope you might have on the willy is backwater and/or soft-water staging spots.
i, too, am up in arms about where to go. outside of the long drive for you, i like your chances at hagg. roger says super early morning is key if you're going to drive out there. tanner creek and scoggins creek would be arms to seek out in my opinion.
lacamas seems at least as viable as hagg, especially with reports of monsters coming out of there in the last month or two. look for the lily pads, and/or fish along the rocky shoreline by the roadway.
while i'm at it, has anyone made visual observations of the columbia out in the cascade locks area? just how blown is it? checking the usgs water data site, it's not too far above the median flow expected for this time of year. however, it is up 6 feet from where it was last friday...
options...

I snuck out on the lower willy last night for a bit and it is higher than I have ever fished it. The clarity has dropped from about 3' last weekend to under a foot in most spots. The water temp has also dropped significantly too, like you mentioned, around 50.8* in the main channel after sunset, a bit higher in the protected waters.
We were able to pick up a few fish, but nothing like last weekend. It seems you need to put the bait right in front of their nose in order to provoke a bite.
With that being said, I will probably be out on the lower willy tomorrow again however. It close and I need to be home in the afternoon, so I will give it another go....
Maybe see you out there Fishlipper?
I have not been on the upper in a couple of weeks, its almost too much out there right now....

Chet, My vote goes to Lacamus as well. Call it a recon misson.
You probably aren't going to miss much on the willy anyway.
I think I'm going to sit this weekend out, save the fuel, and work on cleaning the garage.
Certainly more productive times to be fishing.

The Willamette above the falls to Wilsonville is still very high and a bit colored...the flow is very fast too, and still lots of debris.
It has not dropped!

All right guys, I am sitting this one out. MXRacer, I hope you have a great day tomorrow and please give us a report, good or bad. I might try Monday if a miracle happens on the river. I would try Lacamas, but I don't have my WA licences and do not feel like spending that money for a reacon trip. Good luck to all, and everybody be safe. Mike, thanks for the suggestion, I think you sealed it for me.

I was at the Cascade Locks area on Monday and did very well. The water was up some but nothing like below. That may have all changed since Monday though. Am going up there tomorrow. Will post results tomorrow afternoon.
