You mean a couple of half hitches?
I dont know what you mean by slip knots on a herring.

Yeah I think it is a half hitch. I've seen the knot but I'm not sure how to tie it. Can you help? Thanks

You just use half hitches, if you had a slip knot and it bound on you the leader could break at the knot.

Thanks a ton Stickfish, That's what I was looking for. I know it seems simple but I like to have it down before I get out there and fumble around trying to figure it out. " Production of fish is directly related to the lenght of time your line is in the water".

lay the leader along the herring and use stretchy thread along the body of the herring, the tie it off with a half hitch. ot put a few half hitches along the body with the leader(hopefully dacron)
