Tuesday i ran over to barview to try to get some seabass, the roomie and I couldnt get a bite. We even fished during prime tide periods.
Yesterday we headed up to the Columbia River for a shot at some smallmouth.

I managed to get my first smallie on a crawdad jig near structure.

The photo turned out decent, taken from a cell phone. As far as size, im not sure. I weigh 180lbs.

That fish looks like a 5 or 6 to me. But I am pretty sure that is not the Columbia river behind you. Unless you are way, way up. Maybe one of the sloughs on the river?

The best way to judge a fish in a PHOTO is to cover the face and body of the person holding the fish and look at the fish and the hand holding the fish. The person behind the fish can make the fish look even bigger than it is. If his hand is about 4 inches from top to bottom and compare that to the fish..... the fish is 20 inches or more! I would say the bass is between 4lbs 14oz and 5lbs 8oz. and small mouth near 5 pounds is oner heck of a nice bass!
Great job!!!!

Guys, i was fishing just above Cascade Locks off the freeway. Found a flat/bay that was running 5-8' deep. The bass was hooked on a yum crawdad bait.

My roomate got two 1-2lb'ers as well.

Beware there are ticks on the prowl. Found one on my jacket this morning, yesterday one on the dog, and the roomate found two on himself.

I've never caught a bass that big, and here you are with a pig for your first. Definitely a good catch.

I would venture to say that you have officially been spoiled on smallies. That is one heck of a nice fish, guys that fish routinely for smallies might get a handfull of those a year. Nice work.:thisbig:

Yeah, kinda like killing a big 6x6 Elk on your first trip. Sure, you might find that 7x7 someday, but it won't be easy. Hopefully, that fish isn't the high-water mark of your smallie experience. You'll just have to join the cult, or you'll never know what could have been.......
