I picked this up at the FFCO auction for a steal and wondered if any of you had an opinion on it. I know it is a discontinued rod but it feels amazing. Can't wait to fish it.

Unbelievable rod, probably the best rod that i have ever owned. Soft touch, with enough backbone to land coho, steelhead, chum, and numerous other species. I ended up breaking mine and Sage just turned another VPS blank to replace it.

I have a Sage XP590 fly rod. I can't even tell you how much I love it. The only time it is out of the tube is when I have it in my hand. It comes out of the boat tube and goes directly into another tube. Sage makes some awesome stuff :applause::applause:

We bought a used one out of the oregonian classified a long time ago...and I fished it heavily for years - landed dozens of Steelhead & coho.

Nice medium/medfast action, Roll cast like a dream w/ a DT line...one of my favorite rods to cast:throb:. I wish manufactures would make more rods like this again and less broomsticks.

The handle fell apart (I think one of the cost savings is a preformed grip), and I patched it together a few times, but eventually the rod broke and repair cost as a second owner was not worth it.

I liked it so much I bought another one recently!

thanks for the input guys. I got it for a steal at the Fly Fisher's Club of OR auction. I just missed getting the Bauer McKinzie reel to go with it. Oh well, I guess I can go by one since I got the rod for half price :applause:

I heard someone say double taper on this. Do you think that is better than a WF line for this rod?

Get a long bellied WF line and you should be good to go. something like a steelhead taper from RIO would be good.
good job on the purchase. should be a great rod for you.
