How long should a fishing vest be? Is it style preference or practicality? I just bought a nice Columbia one and it seems a little high. Im 6'1 and the bottom of it touches the top to upper middle of my stomach. I don't mind either way. I understand if its suppose to be that high, especially if your wadeing. I just don't want to look like an idiot. lol

I actually like it better than the ones that goes down to your waist. Less likely to get wet when wading & on my float tube:D

cool those are the 2 ways i fish. thank you
If it's the columbia one with the black on the pockets I have the same one, it felt a little wierd to me at first but after fishing with it a couple times I really like it.

There are "shorty" vests just made for deep wading. I personally don't like wading almost to the tops of my chest waders and having my fly boxes get full of water.
If you don't wade that deep, you can get by with a longer vest (which usually, will also hold more gear).

I like the shorter vest. Especially if it's colder out and the vest is the top of several layers. The short vests seem to get in the way less and allow more mobility. It is also nice to be able to bend down to land a fish and not have part of your vest dangle in the water.

I have a Chest pack style vest it is not long but I can hold a lot more in the pockets and in the back. Balance the load way more then my old fishing vest rp
