This might have been covered before, if so excuse my small brain:D I have fished catfish at night but never had that much luck, now would like to try crappie fishing at night. I really like fishing latter in the day and then into the night. Do any of you fish crappie at night and if so would you mind sharing any info on this. Thanks Olg

We fished Cats on the Powder River arm at night this last weekend. One pole was drowning a worm for cats, and the other person was casting the shorelines for Crappie. I turned on a boat light that isnt all that bright and it illuminated the water a bit. Crappy came right into that lighted spot chasing food there. I didnt catch a ton where we were at, but frankly i didnt expect to get any...but I got into a few.

Are lights legal in Oregon? I have several submersible lights that I used for crappie fishing back in Texas, but have never used them here. You guys talking about all the crappie have really given me the bug again. I do miss crappie fishing and especially the eating!

Many just use lanterns from shore, when we arrived at Brownlee April 06 at dusk, the whole Hibbard cr lagoon was lit up with lanterns, & they fished all night with good success, I bought one of those floating lights, didn't get a chance to use it tho, a guy was fishing with a floating light right in front of our camp at Brownlee in 06, & caught 40 in just a couple hours, there were a few Boats working the Idaho side at night also, night fishing for Crappie with lights is becomming more & more popular.

Yes! Last year at Shasta I caught 10-15 2-2.5lb crappie on glow in the dark plastic grubs. They were bigger than any bass I caught on the trip. 3 of them fed our group of 12 one night when we made fish tacos.

Hello, this is fleagle from Ohio. I have caught my biggest and most crappie at night if you get a good swarm of bait fish around your boat you will catch some nice fish. Finding a place , with lots of good crappie structure is key at night. If you know of a good honey hole for crappie head there for your night set up.

I've had a lot of luck fishing for bass at night. I use black spinnerbaits/buzzbaits, topwater poppers, prop lures, anything dark and noisy.

For catfish, I like the smellier baits at night. Chicken livers have worked well for me. I fish them on the bottom on a slip sinker rig with a 2/0 Gamakatsu wide-gap hook. I clip a glow-in-the-dark sleeve on my rod tip to detect strikes.

You sound like you are a transplanted southerner. That's the way we do it for bass and cats. We did a lot of night fishing for bass in the summer when it would get unbearably hot in the daytime. We usually did well at night on the bass. Believe it or not, plastics and cankbaits also work very well at night.
Chicken livers or shrimp were my goto on cats. We ran trot lines sometimes and needed the bait to stay on the hook, so both of those baits fit the bill. Catfish, ummm, tasty.
