My bro-n-law is on the lower willy and has found some good fish. He has about 10 to the boat in the first hour. Biggest so far is a fat almost 3lb female, but the rest have been solid males. He has had to find a little different water since the flow are high and heavy. Dragging plastics has been the ticket for him. Light bites is the word. I will post back as I get more updates. I will hopefully get some pics as the fish get bigger. It will be my turn this weekend, and maybe even a mid week trip.
See ya soon.
Here are a couple of pics
This is a nice female.

Average size male. Look at that water condition behind him.

Just a quick update if anyone cares. Bro-n-law ended up with a couple of more in the 3lb range and quite a few shorts. Looks like points near staging water with slight current was the ticket. Good luck and I will be out all day Saturday. Will be in a 18ft bass tracker pro team, if you see us stop by and say hi.

Thanks for the report FishLipper, but you are really making me want to skip out on work and get out there...
I will be out there this weekend (hopefully a couple mornings), I will keep an eye out for you....

sounds like the high flows didn't slow him down too much.
river really has been up the last few days.
in excess of 40,000 cfs last time i checked.

You are right Joe, the river is ripping.... above the falls it is currently at 57.48' and 49301 CFS according to the guides forecast website....
And from the forecasted levels, it going to get worse before it gets any better. Maybe it will keep the pleasure boaters off the water for the weekend?

Yeah, I'm kinda think I was focusing on the wrong water this last weekend.
Makes me want to go back out and try again.
I hear the CR has the Lower Willy backed up, resulting in less current...is this true?

mike, i haven't been on the lower river since the melt started, but
i know from a couple seasons back that if the columbia is big it
really does slow down the current on the willy.
all this said, yeah the splashers and gigglers may back off for the weekend,
but what kind of angling opportunities will we encounter on the river?
guess we'll just have to go do some sniffing around :)

I was around coon island saturday morning....I cant speak for sure because I didnt check any tide info, but I'd bet when we started the tide was in, and by noon was out cuz the current really picked up...I would imagine that the ocean tides affect lower Willamette flow more than the columbia.
we caught 5 or so pounders between 8a-11a...never fished there before so had no local knowledge. I have brownlee on the 30th...
