Great looking bass. I know how exciting it is to catch nice bass. but lets try to remember that catch and release is always the best option when fishing for bass.

How did they eat? Bass where I usually fish don't swim away. The little ones are pretty good, haven't caught any big ones like that though.

Is this a remark on how I did not release?
I honestly did not know that taking big bass can have such negative results on the species. I got a little excited and kept it.. Knowing what I know now??....No I would not have kept it... that is my first and last retained bass.
I really don’t want to offend anyone by my "Un sportsman’s like actions" if I have I apologize.

Congrats on your first few bass. Some people frown on keeping caught bass. As long as it's legal to retain, I'm cool with it. With the Mercury warning that WA State has, I am reluctant to try one though.
I have the Competitor CC664. Which model do you have?
Lastly, you haven't seen anything yet, until you hook into your first smallmouth. :)

From what I hear, keeping a few can help keep the size up.....overpopulation in lakes can lead to stunted growth.
Thanks for sharing.

Eat the smallies from Troutdale on up. I do and they taste great. I wouldn't worry about the mercury warnings above there. Throw the largemouth back. It takes too long to grow them up here in the PNW. I would eat my first bass as well though. Sort of an initiation.

My CC664 feels powerful so I bet your rod model is even moreso.

Right on!! I also have a Certified Pro Drop Shot Special rod and the rod even at 7' long is so light and sensitive, it's almost not a fair fight. :D
Gotta love my lamis!

Thank you! if I can help any time let me know! Thank you for thinking it over. You do not offend we would just like you to think about it and you have! I respect that! do not feel bad because you kept this bass. But you now understand that big bass are important to some of us and more so now for you! you are a very fast learner!
Thanks!!!!!!!

Steamboat,
If you want to kill and grill don't feel bad! You are within the law and will be able to provide for your friends and family when Y2K hits. Seriously, if you want to eat a fish, do it. A four pound bass is only a few years old, not like an oversize sturgeon!

Umm, not much...except he's probably the antithesis of a "catch and release" philosophy...won't bode well on this forum
