Though I've been tossing flies (not always into the trees) since the late 60s, I've been inactive :hoboy: for a number of years and feeling out of touch.

Now I'm in the process of setting up a couple of fly fishing combos for a couple of beginners. You know, your basic, generic do-everything (yeah, right) fly fishing combo. (Think trout first, both river and lake.)

Personally, I always tended toward 6-inch bull trout streamers, heavily wieghted #4 nymphs, weighted steelhead flies, and even the occasional bass bug, so I normally used a WF line.

The combos I'm setting up are an 8 1/2-ft #7 rod and a 9-ft #5-6 rod.

Recommendations, please, for a happy beginner's experience?

Thanks much for any suggestions.

Depends on what kind of price points you are looking for...

Some decent entry level lines are Cortland 333+, Scientific Anglers Air Cel, and Air Cel Supreme 2. Good solid brands with proven performance for a reasonable price.
